Oh the memories, my current state of the collection.
My insurance agent asked me to get him an updated list of my current collection. Its been a while since I had them all together so while I did, took a few pics and wained nostalgic about how the collection came to be.
I still have my first watch. My parents gave me a Timex quartz World time Chronograph for my 10th birthday. My father wore the same watch in gold which I also have. In 1979, my grandfather gave me my second and first mechanical movement watch, a Heuer Pasadena that was private labeled and sold as a Le Jour Pasadena. As fate would have it, I apparently wasn’t into watches when I was 13 and left in the box which ended up being stored away for 20 years. My parents decided to retire and move to a warmer climate and sold the family home. While cleaning out the boxes in the storage room, they came across one filled with some items of mine. Low and behold, there was the Le Jour my grandfather had given me for my birthday still in the box unworn. I cherish it because it was a gift from him. My mothers great uncle worked for the railroad in the late 1800’s. When he retired, he was given an Illinois YG pocket watch which has been passed down to me. It’s currently at a watchmaker getting a service since the last time was 1974. I won’t bore you all with a play by play history of each watch but a couple highlights are: As my screen name suggests, I started seriously collecting Doxa watches. At one point, I had 11 of them, modern and vintage. As my collection expanded, I paired down the Doxa’s and kept 3 that had meaning to me. Of note, the 40th Anniversary 600T-Graph was a 40th Birthday present from my wife. I spent several years looking for the right birth year watch and found this excellent example 5513. From the serial number, it was even made the same month which I thought was very cool. I have the original riveted bracelet but wear it on a nato or leather band to preserve it. Here is a couple of group shots of the rest of the herd.

Love your collection. I like seeing a history or past to a collection. So many new modern watch collections are a tad mundane. This collection shows past and present. It’s a true watch collectors collection. I love it!

I figured it would be a different discussion to talk about what's in ones collection verses the “should I wear my watch while shampooing the rug” or another, “there is a SS shortage”. Would like to hear about others collections and how they ended up with what they have in them?

Great story and collection. May I ask what Pam is beside the Micky Mouse watch?

Thanks Michelle.
Sure, cherry pick the good ones! Quote:
Thanks! Thanks! I guess being a bit of a pack rat who hates to throw out sentimental things pays off on occasion. Lol Thanks. Two good choices! Quote:
Thanks. The RG is one of my all time favorites. I don’t wear it often but it brings a smile to my face every time I do. It’s my wife’s favorite watch I own. Don’t miss them, get another or the new ceramic ROO in 42mm. I have a call into Clearwater to see what it would run to change out the bezel when they get serviced to a ceramic? Then to me, would be perfect!

Great collection David. Really like your Doxa Tgraph...it’s a real classic!
I was also into Doxa years ago. My wife still has a mint vintage Doxa Sub 200 Caroline. |

Amazing that you still have your first watch. Does it still work?
I probably went through half a dozen timex quartz watches when I was younger. I used to love them.

It’s funny, I bought a Submariner first and it was my daily wearer for 18 years before I started collecting. The dive master on our boat in Cancun had a 30 year old beat up 300T and I always loved the orange dial. Almost 20 years later when I started to learn about horology, it was the Doxa forum I discovered first. The memory of that old Doxa came back and I was hooked. Great watch the ladies Caroline. Not many of them out there. Very cool she has one!

You know, I haven't put a battery in it in close to 40 years. That’s a great question. I may have to do so and see if it does?

Popped the case back off and everything looked alright. Still had the original two tiny button batteries in it and fortunately, no corrosion. Picked up a couple new batteries and damn, it fired right up! Functions as new and even the back light works. Crazy it hasn’t been on in 40 years and still functions perfectly.

This was fun to scroll through and you have a great collection. If you had to pick your top 5, setting aside sentimental value, which would you choose of the lot?
