yachtmaster rhodium vs sub ND

i still cannot decide.

i’d like to hear from people who own both or did own both. if you could only have one, which one and why? what did you like not like about either?

i think the yachtmaster has more of what i want - a dressier sub but i am concerned about the dial no sure if i want a grey dial. i like black and i like white. Also concerned about it being not that legible in certain lights, i’ve seen a pictures where it’s too reflective and i’ve read from other owners who experienced this as well. see pic attached. also not that crazy about the cyclops as i really never change the date function in my watches but it could be useful if i actually did make the effort so a minimal issue.

man i wish they made all all black dial version.

I agonized about that one for awhile... I thought the YM was a really good looking watch (I was thinking about the blue dial and legibility played into that) and the sub was well... a sub. The classic Rolex. I could at least try the YM on and thought it looked great and was super comfortable. Kind of a "dress sub". BUT... In the end I went for the sub. I knew I would never wonder "what if" since I've wanted one for as long as I can remember. Had it about a year now and still happy. Plus I thought the brushed finish would be a better fit for my lifestyle.

Love my SubDate but I did try on a YM yesterday. Wow! I never realized they were that comfortable. The case shape and is much different than the nearly flat bottomed Sub case. It would make for a very comfortable everyday watch. The blue dial is also very stunning. I'm just not the biggest fan on the size and style of the numbers on the bezel. Still its gorgeous watch.

Absolutely love the rhodium YM. People that are into watches seem to really like it, and it flies under the radar for the average joe which is exactly what I want.

I think the blue dial is nice, but IMHO it looks like a much less expensive watch.

YM. It wears like a 5 digit and is different than may Sub looking watches. I do have a SubC and it never gets any wrist time.

YM is very comfortable and wears really nice. You also mentioned that the yachtmaster has more of what you want - a dressier sub. I have both and I wear the YM as my daily for work during the week. Visit an AD or Boutique and try both of them on, you cannot go wrong with either. This is subjective.

They will wear different ones a dive watch rated for 300m legible. The other is a well I don't know, but its rated for 100m and not legible. Depends what you want!

I prefer the YM due to the case profile. It's dressy enough to wear with a business suit, and goes all the way to the beach. My wrist can't quite handle the current sub's case... so there is that.

I would go with the Sub Date instead of both. No date looks not appealing to me without the date function.

Between the two, I would pick the Yachtmaster. But be careful with selecting the Yachtmaster as the bezel instert might be updated to the ceramic version soon...And you will have an old version of a watch without much demand already...

I've had Submariners and Sub dates. Hard to go wrong with either one. I currently have a 116622LB. For me, it's more comfortable than a SubC. It's a nicer looking watch IMO and can be worn with everything. Maybe part of it is I've been wearing black dial Subs for a while and I needed a change. I have wanted a YM for a while and it doesn't disappoint. I don't think I'd go back to a SubC. I know the OP prefers the Rhodium dial but the blue dial gives it contrast. The Rhodium makes it monochromatic, like a YG watch with a champagne dial. YMMV

I am considering the TT version right now and notice that the case and bracelet appear to be the same in design as a Daytona which is my most comfortable watch.

I've also considered a TT Sub or GMT, but the case design of both wears considerably larger.

Love the rhodium YM. It looks way better in person than in pictures. The sub is great too of course but the YM pops and love the contrast of the blue hand and dial text.

The blue is stunning . When I saw it in person I didn't understand why it isn't one of the "HOT" watches.

I have bought and traded many watches in the search for my optimum mix. So far I have not regretted one of my trades except for one. I traded my blue dial YM. It is now back on my acquisition list. I don’t know what I was thinking. There are several unique aspects of the watch. The case has narrower lugs than the maxi case used on the Sub. I happen to favor 5 digit Subs so this is a big plus for me. So you get the fit and comfort of the updated bracelet with a case similar to the 5 digit. How many times have you read on this forum that people want a 5 digit case with updated bracelet? You have it with the YM. The platinum bezel is also a unique look that allows you to dress the watch up or down. I know people argue that you can dress up a dive watch or that it is now acceptable to use a dive watch in more formal settings but I still believe that there are many situations where this is a stretch. So if you need a diver, get a diver. If you need a beautifully executed, GADA watch go Yacht Master all day!

I have a 6 digit SubC and a 5 digit TT Blue sub...The YM is on my radar for my next watch. I’m in no hurry, but am torn on Blue or Rhodium...considered the black Rose Gold, but it doesn’t look right on me (would love an oysterflex)...
To your question, depending on lifestyle, if I could only have one it would be SubC...

I saw both blue and rhodium side by side . While the rhodium is nice the blue pops out .
