OB overcharging on SS models!?

My wife just bought me an 116610LN from the local Rolex official boutique as an anniversary gift. After all the pleasantries I came to find out that she paid the equivalent of $10,900 for it which is definitely higher than the official price with receipt in hand. She said they would not make it available at normal retail price.

They tried to use the recent price increase as one of the reasons. Our countries import tax is 5%, and we have a %5 VAT. So there is no way it would be more expensive than say Germany or UK.

What would any of you do if you were in my place? Would bringing this to the attention of Rolex make any difference?

Cherish it and your wife took the trouble to get the anniversary gift. Don't make a fuss and turn it into an unpleasant situation.

You can call Rolex but I doubt you will get a refund and you probably will not be able to source hard to get pieces from that AD again. I would let it go.

Perhaps you can explain the simple math and MSRP in your country before outing the AD/Boutique.

Saying there is no way your country is more than UK/Germany, etc. doesn't necessarily make sense.

It comes down to the MSRP in your own $$$, plus taxes and import duties, etc. It has zero correlation with what MSRP is in other places. It's not a straight currency conversion.

What is the RRP of the watch right now in your country including taxes?

If you paid more at an AD, call Rolex. Simple.

So the price increase was one of the reasons like the mentioned which is fair. Also, Rolex SA generally doesn't have any policy regarding charging premiums to MSRP. So with that said congrats on your watch and I think any other contacting of Rolex is not appropriate. Your wife made a nice gesture.

For the most part brands have nothing like as much influence over ADs or sales and distribution in the Middle East as they do in Europe and North America. Like nearly no control at all.

Sorry to say it but complaining to Rolex HQ that a Bahraini AD (might) have ripped off your wife isn’t going to mobilise the Rolex Special Ops unit.

Sounds like the choices were either this price or no watch. Your wife choose the price so what is the complaint? Not dealer problem you were not there. The person with the money decided to purchase on agreed price

Try to put yourself in her shoes. Imagine you came across a designer bag that you knew she had her eye on and you bought it from a boutique and gave it to her. How would you feel if she asked you how much you paid and why did they charge you so much? Wouldn't that take much of the excitement out of your gesture?
Based on your post I don't know how much you think they overcharged your wife, but it's not like they totally ripped you off. Hope you enjoy your watch for many many years! It's a great one.

Rolex does not take complaints from consumers about dealers. Can you imagine the chaos if they did? Keep in mind that Rolex does not run the store where the watch was purchased.

Enjoy your watch. It's a lovely gift, and it sounds like your wife got a good price for it.

. . .
A Dealer can sell their products for whatever they want to sell them for, there is no law that they must sell them for MSRP.

You wouldn't complain if you got it at 10% off would you? That isn't MSRP either.

Perhaps you could invest in some anger management time.

^^^ This. Hell, yeah, this! ^^^^

How long have you been married?

If my wife bought me a 116610 for a gift, I would wear it! This, after waking up from my shock-induced coma!

I guess the 40% markup isn't enough for that authorized dealer? I would keep the watch, but post negative reviews on Google, Yelp, and other social websites. By exposing their tactics Rolex will become aware and could strip them of their AD status.
