Opinions Needed - 16610 Birth Year

Hi TRF!

I have been on the hunt for a birth year 16610 for a while, with no luck. I decided to have a very reputable vintage dealer help me, and he’s come up with this watch. To me, it looks great! Price is right on budget, but as this is a lifetime watch, I want to be 100% thorough. I don’t have any concerns about authenticity. This guy is well known. I have “bought the seller.” My questions for you TRF experts:

As far as polishing goes, I know people are usually concerned about that. Do the lugs look overly polished to you?

The bracelet looks to be fairly tight, yes?

This has all original parts (no service parts)?

Is there anything about it you have questions about? That you’d be concerned about? Any photos I should ask for first as I haven’t seen it?

Thanks SO much in advance.

Not an expert, but lugs look crisp to me.
Hands, dial and pip seem to match.
Bracelet looks very decent.

Overall, I'd definitely green light it.

edit: do wait for expert opinion before doing so ;-)

If you are working with a quality vintage dealer then the dealer would be able to guide you to a watch that has complete authenticity and originality. Price would probably be higher than this piece, and also difficult to find everything you want when chasing the birth year watch. Takes time, patience and $$$$.

Looks fine to me.

However: I don't understand the whole 'birth year' deal. I get it if your parents bought you one, or bought themselves one as a celebration of your birthday and then later passed it on to you.

But buying a pre-owned watch, someone else wore for the past XX years, just because it's from the year you were born. I don't know.. Emotionally that doesn't do anything for me. I'd buy new and attach my own memories.

I get it. This piece is in my price range, and seems appropriate for what I’m after! It seems to fit everything I want. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything that someone with better knowledge than me caught. Not worried about authenticity here. :) Thanks!

I get that! I don’t know why I like the idea so much, but I do! I own new pieces that I purchased from AD, but this I like. The idea that something was created the same year I was the pre owned idea never bothered me. Hm. Dunno why! Haha Thanks for the thoughts!

Looks great to me.

I am feeling old, because I have a 16610, which I have worn for 20+ years now (u series), but for me a birth year sub would be a 1680 lol.

Haha! I feel like a baby admitting this is my birth year watch. 1680 is a gorgeous ref

Looks in good shape to me. Bracelet looks tight and whilst it’s obviously had a polish to ‘freshen it up’, it looks to have been nicely done.
