Input on building a collection

I’m not sure if I’m posting in the right section. I am trying to build a small collection of 5 watches from 5 different brands that I like the most. What is your favorite model(s) from each of these brands? I will start.

1. Rolex - BLRO/Hulk
2. AP - RO/ROC
3. Panerai - 335/317
4. Blancpain - Fifty Fathoms Mil Spec/OC3
5. Vacheron - Overseas 4500V

Thanks in advance for your participation.

Depends what you're after. They are definitely very Instagram friendly. It's all very personal with this stuff, But personally I don't think I'd spend 1m RMB on those for my taste. Love the Blancpains tho.
The other ones are a dime a dozen for guys who prefer that style and budget. I wish some of the other established firms were popular too so we had some more variety

1. Rolex: 114o6o, BLRo Meteorite, 116613LB and 1165o8 green dial.

I am not attracted to any of the other brands you've mentioned, but do take a look at Vacheron''s Cabinotiers timepieces, they are something else than its main collection.

I know a lot of folks aren’t a fan of the Panerai Due line up especially with the huge change in water resistance, however, I wear a lot suits for work and found that the traditional Panerai’s are a bit too thick and get caught on my cuffs. The Due is much thinner.

This just my very personal opinion: the Hulk, AP and Panerai just don't sing to me at all, whereas the Blancpain and VC most definitely do! Lovely watches. But OP buy what you like and enjoy wearing it!

That’s a nice lineup indeed! Pretty close to what I actually put together as my collection, though my Panerai is a 424 and I recently sold my BLRO for a Lange. From experience though, once you have a 4500V it’s hard to wear anything else. At least for me. The AP doesn’t wear the inevitable scratches and marks of every day life quite as well and therefore tends to be more of a like to own more than like to wear affair. The remainder is not in the same league in terms of finesse. Indeed, both the GMT and the Panerai feel a bit blunt by comparison (not that that would be a bad thing, but they are noticeably of a different breed). The Blancpain is a tricky one. Personally, I kinda like the Bathyscaphe, but could never bring myself to pull the trigger on it. It’s just a bit neither here nor there.

That nr. 5 though! Such a fantastic piece! Nr 2 is an intriguing but very apt choice too, I like your taste

Believe me, once you play with 2 and 5 long enough, divesting Rolexes is an entirely possible outcome

You can get custom made to measure dress shirts for under $100. The website I use puts an extra inch on my left wrist.

If you can afford a Rolex, you can probably afford dress shirts that fit your body and watch perfectly.

I have tried on the Panerai Due and I like it very much, especially the rose gold version.

Is your list also in the order of acquisition too? Getting one piece, enjoying it for some, will lead you to the next. So the first piece is important. That said, they are all very different looking watches but they seem to serve the same functions- sporty steel. As you buy each piece see how it fits with what you already have. This will affect the future collection. I love the Panerai 317, the 335 is an alternative, as is the 233. I personally own a Radiomir 190 and really love it.
The AP and VC are really similar. Note the VC has 150 meter water resistance so it's easily capable of any water activities. I like the VC Historiques 1921 and would personally consider it if I didn't have the Panerai 190. The Blancpain is a curiosity. I think the Rolex choices are solid, probably prefer the BLRO especially if you had the Blancpain.

Good luck!

4 excellent choices; real good taste.
Except the Panerai. Ditch it for something gold; maybe a Caltrava since you have so many great sports watches on the list already. Plus then you have the holy trinity of PP/AP/VC
