Fair Trade in Today's Markets?

Given today's markets and grey market prices for some of these SS watches, wanted to see what the community's thoughts were on a fair trade. Note, both watches are Brand New, purchased in March:

2020 Sub Date + Cash for a 2020 Batman

Question for the community is what would be a fair "Cash" agreement in this trade, and if you were the owner of the Sub or Batman, would you trade for the other watch?

About $300, meaning the MSRP difference on these watches. And I wouldn't trade the sub date for a batgirl.

Considering market price, not MSRP....Sub + $3500 for the BLNR on jubilee would be a fair deal.

Chrono24 is showing the GMT is worth $4000 more than the Sub Date ..

Interesting that the date carries about a $1000 premium for the additional complication, but the second time zone complication is only worth $300.

Of course, that's MSRP.

My thinking is that it's not an ideal time to trade unless you can find an end-user that's interested in the swap. The grey dealers want to be reducing their inventory/exposure, not merely changing the composition. I'll bet $4-5k difference.

The sub is as ubiquitous a Rolex as it gets next to a DJ. While the BLNR on jubilee is still pretty tough to find in the wild. I’d say you’d be looking at the sub plus 3-4K for the BLNR. All day. Sorry to any hardcore Sub fans, but the GMT is worth more.

Yep. I offered a BLNR and LVc for a 116618LB, and didn’t even get a counter offer. Just a “no.”

I wouldnt even offer $1k on top.

The most hyped watches are the ones that will drop the most in the coming months.

(i.e) Hulk, BLNR, BLRO, Bluy SKyD, Daytona.

Paying over MSRP for any watch in todays climate would not be high on anyone's spectrum.

The Daytona will not drop like the others. It may drop a few dollars but you won’t see near MSRP.

I'll take up a collection to generate $300 if you never say "Batgirl" again.

I wouldn’t do the trade now. What’s the rush?

If you want to make any moves I’d sell the sub today and buy the Batman in a few months. You probably could’ve sold the sub for more 2 months ago than you can now. And the GMTs are 100% coming down across the board new and used.

Well, but it’s a trade, so the cash amount is only representing the spread between the market prices of the two watches.

If the spread was $1k, the market prices of the two watches could be $14k/$15k or it could be $7k/$8k. The concept of paying over MSRP isn’t relevant in that scenario.

In this case, the spread is between the wholesale value of the Sub and the retail value of the GMT. And I'm betting that wholesale prices are in the basement while at the same time, dealers are still trying to defend a certain retail level.

Yes. They have for the longest time significantly traded above retail.

I think those values are “top of the mark” and Chrono24 has incentive to want you to sell for more because they make 6.5% commission.

I would only ever add a GMT to a submariner. Wouldn't trade the Sub + cash for a GMT.

But that's just my preference.

The price of BLNR on jubilee in DavidSW (unworn with no plastics) has dropped to $13,975 which is lower than BLNR on Oyster (2019) ($14,475) under a similar condition. I guess the price of BLNR on jubilee would be dropping in a faster rate so that the price difference would be getting smaller after a while.

It's whether you wish to knowingly be ripped off for the joy of owning the different watch right now... If GMT is important (and you don't own a phone for the function) then perhaps its worth the 3k in the pocket of the salesperson. It will give them some breathing room I'm this difficult time. That's a month or two rent!

In the UK I would say SubDate + £3000. Batman is a very difficult watch to get here versus a Sub. Certainly in my area anyway.
