Icon20 Seamaster or Black Bay GMT

In the market for a new watch and trying to decide between the new Omega Seamaster Professional 300 Diver and the Tudor Black Bay GMT.

I like the ceramic bezel and micro adjust on the Seamaster, but like the GMT functionality of the GMT. My only reservation about the Seamaster is whether it will stand the test of time and my only one about the GMT is the thickness.

Would love any input!

A couple of people have asked this same question, including me.

Here is a thread I started a while back. There might be another more recent one:

I would also add that my reservations with the GMT were: (1) no clasp adjustments, (2) date wheel issue and (3) thickness.

With the SMP 300 was: (1) dislike bracelet (but rubber band is great)

I've owned both, seamaster hands down!

Sold the tudor off 3 months after ownership bc of all the date wheel issues.
Who needs the stress of the issue persisting, especially after the warranty ends.

I take it you went with the SMP?

I think I like the SMP better myself...I’ve been looking at potentially adding one, though the decision is likely easier as I already have a BLRO for my GMT watch.

I had a similar deliberation and posted here - it was between the White SMP 300M and the Tudor 58 though (not the GMT). I ended up with both...

I'd also say it depends why you want the watch (and what else you currently have), but both are pretty good in my books.

Had the sea master and sold it the minute I laid eyes on the BB GMT. The timekeeping on the gmt is bar none, dead on accurate. Fit and finish nearly on par to Omega but little difference. No date issues and wear it every day in comfort. No brainer for me. Looks better too.

I am going through somewhat of a similar situation trying to determine my next watch. I have a few on my radar, but a couple that I’ve looked quite hard at are the Omega Diver 300M white dial on bracelet and the Tudor Pelagos blue dial. Both great watches, and so is the Tudor you mention, but I’m leaning towards Omega. I love the white dial and the date window as I actually use a date complication quite frequently. I also like the bracelet on the Omega and the see through case back. The size is nice (for me) at 42mm as well.

My choice is also based on my current watch, a 43mm Tag Heuer Aquaracer with black dial in rubber strap with deployant clasp. Since I’ve got a black dial on rubber, it makes me want something a bit different, so the Omega with white dial on bracelet makes a whole lot of sense at the moment.

Good luck with your decision.

I think the Seamaster is a bit more refined and better looking. The Tudor is more classical-looking. Can't go wrong with either, but I'm loving that white-dialed Seamaster right now. What a cool-looking dive watch!

SMP easily for me. I wouldn't touch the Tudor GMT until there is definitive proof that the date skip issue is fixed. And as you mentioned, the Tudor for me is far too thick. It looks funky on my flat wrist.

Seamaster hands down. With features including the co-axial escapement and liquid metal, it's better engineered than Rolex at half Rolex's price point. It will absolutely stand the test of time. The bezel isn't ceramic, it's liquid metal which is much better. My biggest dislikes about the seamaster are the helium escape valve (the peanut butter cup) and the style of the bracelet (which is growing on me). However, I keep lusting after a seamaster and hope to add it to the collection some day.

The Seamaster is probably the more upscale watch, but I think you would wind up liking the GMT more. It's a perfect low key travel watch and the GMT function is extremely useful.

BB GMT for me. Never been a fan of the current Seamaster. However, both are worthy and would serve the wearer well.

I have owned a Black Bay GMT since introduction and purchased the white dial Omega Seamaster 300 earlier in the year. I got the Omega on the bracelet but also had the rubber strap. I have found the Black Bay appeals to me as a cool retro look watch. The size is 41 mm but it wears larger than the Omega which is 42mm and I think that comes from the thickness of the case and the bezel/crystal on the BB. In short order I found the Omega not to be to my liking based on wear and fit. I am not a fan of the helium release valve on the Omega and for a white dial watch I much prefer my Polar Explorer II. I sold the Omega and did not lose any money as I bought right but if I would have paid retail, I would have gotten crushed. There are a lot of factors that go into buying and liking a watch and for me the Omega did not work out. At a different point in my collecting it might have stuck. If you can, go try the watches on and see what works for you.

I got the SMP 300 in blue a couple of months ago and love it. Would take it over any current Tudor personally.

It looks like you got about 50/50 responses. I think they are both great watches. I recently picked up the BB GMT. I shared your concerns about the thickness of the watch, but after about six weeks wearing it, I can report that the thickness has not been an issue at all. I definitely feel it on my wrist more than my DJ41, but it is not unwieldy by any means and does not feel overly bulky. I also absolutely love the look.

Thus far I have not had an issue with the date wheel. Granted, it's only been a couple of months, but so far so good.

I wouldn't let your concerns dissuade you from the Tudor, but I don't think you can go wrong either way.

I'd have the Tudor GMT for functionality, build quality and value for money.

I had the Tudor BB GMT on leather/Nato and while I liked it it always felt really top heavy and I was always having to adjust it. Overall it was not very comfortable for my wrist. Mine also developed the date wheel issue.

I traded the Tudor for the Omega SMP300 on steel bracelet and it is much more comfortable for me. Not a massive fan of the bracelet design but don't hate it. Same feelings about the He escape valve.

Overall, I prefer the Omega after owning both. If Tudor came out with a BB58 GMT, I would most likely trade towards that but would have to see the rivet bracelet in person. Really wish they didn't have the fake rivets...does anyone like those?
