SD43 vs Daytona WG Oysterflex

I have been debating trading up to the 116519LN from the 126600 SD43. I could keep both but I find myself not wearing the SD43 as much as I thought.

I find SD43 weight at 185gram and the back of the case to become a bit annoying to wear all day/night. I do sleep wearing a watch. Wondering if the 160gram WG Daytona on Oysterflex rubber will be a daily wearer.

I always liked the Daytona, especially on the Oysterflex. The black ceramic bezel on the 116519LN measures 38mm. Whereas the black ceramic bezel on the SD43 measures 40mm. However, per the catalog pic below (catalog is true size), the SD43 wears larger.

I was hoping in current market to be able to order a new 116519LN at a discount off msrp...not sure if possible yet.

Thoughts?

I'm in the camp of add not replace... With that being said I do wear all my watches. I sleep with a watch on and never found it uncomfortable (Sub and other watches ranging from 36mm - 44mm). One thing to note is that any PM case will generally pick up scratches and dents more easily so if that is a concern you have to weigh that in your decision.

Huge upgrade, do it! Having owned both and prefering dive watches over chronos its still an easy win for the Daytona. You should be able to get one at retail in short order not sure about the discount though.

I think you might find the Daytona top heavy and generally not as comfortable as a properly fitted SD43.

I just got over Covid-19 at age 51 (pretty bad 2 weeks in my basement) and decided to buy what I want. However, I am not sure what I want...hence the current dilemma. I saw this post, and was considering converting a black SS Daytona, although hard to source the Oysterflex after market.

Just about opposite ends of the wearing spectrum I would guess.

I’m an owner of the SD43 and can relate to your comments about wearability of this reference. To some degree it’s all about what you are “used to” wearing. I’d add the Daytona if at all possible as I have a feeling you might miss the SD43.

I'd go for the OF, not sure an AD would give a discount on the WG for a while yet.

It's all preference, for me, the 519 all day over the SD43. But I don't like big watches.

I own the 519 in a 6 watch collection, and along with my SubC LN, they are my two daily watches. The 519 is very easy to daily. Super comfy and not flashy.

Glad that you were able to beat the thing. 519 is the way to go imo - best looking Daytona out there with the sunburst dial and even lugs

thanks for the suggestions. I will inquire in a couple weeks the local AD's if they are offering any discounts on PM Rolex.

SD43 vs Daytona WG Oysterflex

I have owned both the SD43 and oysterflex Daytona and the SD is definitely my preference. Even at the same price I’d prefer the SD43 for a number of reasons, so would not be interested in paying a premium to convert my SD to a Daytona... but that’s me. Individual requirements and personal taste is everything, they are both superb watches.

Congrats on getting over Covid-19 Marc, that's great to hear....you're so right, life is short buy what you want. The two watches are very different but it sounds like you'd benefit from the lightweight Daytona and the OF strap would make it even more comfortable...looking forward to seeing the incoming photos

If Rolex made that same Daytona with a bracelet instead of rubber strap, I would buy it. I'm not a fan of rubber strap watches. It's a lovely watch though.

I really like the Sea-Dweller, though. I wear mine pretty regularly.

That Daytona is the one I want to add to my collection! Stunning. I have both ceramic SS Daytonas but really want the 116518. Congrats!

I have the SD43 and think in order to make wear well and comfortable, I had to remove the divers extension.

Have you ever considered putting a RubberB on the SD43? To me, I feel it adds a great balance and makes it much more daily wearable than the steel bracelet.

I have strongly considered it. I just think the Submariner/Seadweller classic Rolex lines look correct on the steel bracelet. I may change my mind. I have a RubberB on my Pam 005...wears great.

I am leaning towards what Chadridv did...getting on list for black Steel Daytona and finding Oysterflex from an AD and buying the end links. I love this look.

thank you for all the feedback. I am really bored stuck at home with my family...they are starting to annoy me, and none of them are interested in Rolex.

Looks dirty more than anything. But if they are going to post photos of dirty watches, not a place I’d trust with my money.

Has to be the WG Oysterflex for me. IMHO it’s the best looking of all the Daytona’s.
