Ever get a watch you didn’t bond with?

Did you ever want a watch based on seeing it in an advertisement/on-line or at the AD only to get it home and after you had it a while, it didn’t grow on you?
What did you do, wait to see if your feelings changed, lived with it or got rid of the watch?

Yes. Blue SkyDweller unfortunately. Kept it 12 months and then it went back to the AD as per the prenup.

Early last year my AD got the gmt Batman for me and it just didn’t work for me. So after much deliberating I sold it back to them at a handsome profit and got the Explorer which I bonded with immediately.

Of course. I feel like I’m always on the hunt for the perfect watch and haven’t found it yet. As such, I keep buying and selling to try new things.

My GO stayed for about a year, and I enjoyed it, but not enough to keep it around.

16570 stayed for about 4 months. Insanely comfortable, but wore too small.

116710 was probably my favorite, but after about a year I found myself wearing it less and less often. I think I got a bit bored with it.

My current Omega I can already tell will be short lived. I wanted something with a little more color, but from a quality standpoint it feels more like my 16570 than my 116710, despite being a 2018 watch. I will keep it 3-6 months and see if that changes, but confidence is low.

Next watch I will try I think will be a GO Sea Q black dial on bracelet.

So yeah, plenty of watches I’ve tried with varying degrees of connection.

I have sold pieces, but never made that regretful purchase.

Yea. The Z Blue is not an easy Rolex for an enthusiast to bond with because it is very Anti-Rolex. If you don’t love it, it’s very sensible to sell it and get something else that will work for you.

It’s all about perspective and mind set. You have to ask yourself why you got the watch.

For example, many people just buy what other people like and that works for them because they can wear it and it gets recognized easily and so it satisfies their criteria for owning the watch.

Another example is people who buy specific professional models that correlate with their profession or passion (ie. pilot with GMT, Diver with Submariner, etc).

Find your criteria and get the watch that matches it

DSSD. I always had diver's watches and for a long time I liked a lot of wrist presence. I'd been wearing Omega Seamasters for decades and finally decided to "up my game" with my first Rolex. Quite frankly I was seduced by the specs. I've always been a big fan of over-engineered things, and as a former diver (sport and commercial) the DSSD seemed like the ultimate watch for me. Mine was the all black dial model, a year before the JC version came out. I'd have gotten the all black one anyway as I've always preferred black dials.

I wore it exactly twice, for maybe two hours total wrist time. I found it too top heavy and the geometry was all wrong for my taste. So I put it back in it's box and left it in my closet for several years. Ended up trading it straight up for a clean 16710 BLRO, my grail watch.

Some of the stories here suggest that if folks had simply tried on the watch before they purchased it, they would have saved themselves a lot of money, time, and grief.

Right, I try to do that to, but the optimism and excitement kinda wore off. Maybe it will build over time.
This was not the case with my DJ. Wanted it, loved it from afar and after buying it, thought this was the best watch in the world. Still love it almost two years into it. Can’t envision ever getting rid of it. Same as a 20 + year old Seamaster I bought new. Still love it. But the Milgauss hasn’t had that same emotional ride as these other two have had.

I’m pretty thoughtful about my purchases now, but I bought two watches that didn’t stick.

I owned both for about the same amount of time, a year or year and half. The BLNR didn’t float my boat. I LOVED this watch in pictures (still actually do) but in real life it really did nothing for me.

The Dblue has the most wrist presence of any watch I’ve owned and I LOVE the dial, absolutely the best dial I’ve owned (except maybe my 690), the domed crystal, of course the bracelet. At times the height of the case didn’t bother me one bit, and other times it’s all I could see

Ultimately I let it go for the SD43 as I just couldn’t justify both. I admit to be very tempted to add the Dblue back again ...

Yes,

SS white Sky-Dweller, couldn't vibe with the watch. Colour didn't grow on me and never felt happy with it. Traded it in for a Sky-Dweller with a blue dial and that hit home from the moment I had it

I'm in the same boat! My DSSD has been on my wrist once, maybe twice. I just don't care for it at all. I think it looks great sitting in the watch box, just not on me. Trying to sell it now.

It just seemed oddly small compared to my sub and my DD41.

16570 white dial comes to mind.... I liked the story and image of the watch more than wearing it. I tried for over a year to “love” it, but ended up flipping it for a 116610LV and haven’t looked back once.

Was about to post almost the same thing. I wore mine only a few times and could never get in to it. Was kicking myself for not getting a regular Sub. Oh well.
