Trade 2 for 1?

Hey all,

Haven't posted in a while so but I've run into an interesting thought.

I recently purchased a GPS + Cellular Apple Series 5. Now I'm in health care (clinician) so I'm constantly on my feet and review updates immediately on my watch. I also get 1000+ calories/daily exercise, more than 12 hours standing/day, and roughly 75 min/day of exercise. This thing has given me plenty of motivation to keep moving, and has been highly functional. That being said, it hasn't left my wrist.

Therefore, I've been considering trading my Omega Speedmaster and Rolex Submariner Ceramic Date for a Daytona (black or white) + cash. I find myself still lusting for the Daytona, and not as keen on the Speedmaster and Sub. However, if it were up to me, I'd keep the Speedy and Sub, and add the Daytona in the future but I used excess money's to buy stock during the market correction in March.

Anyways, any insight would be awesome. I previously had the new Black/Blue GMT on Jubilee but I unfortunately didn't vibe with it.

Anyone else reduce the mechanical watch use when the purchased an Apple Watch? Appreciate any insight. I realize this is a first world problem, and hope you're all getting through this pandemic. Thank you for continuous support of the front line.

I use Apple Watch at work and gym as well. Occasionally at night I toss on a Rolex and on weekends. So yes, my use has decreased with Apple Watch.

You said your not vibeing with speedy or sub and you are lusting after a Daytona. The Apple Watch effect is irrelevant. Get what you want. You clearly want Daytona, so go for it!

I think some people wear the mechanical and apple (or whatever, e.g. fitbit) on different arms! Very few would not wear their Rolex in favor of the Apple!

Myself, I only wear a sportswatch when I plan to exercise. All other times I wear my "real" watches. In regards to your question, if the speedy and the sub don't speak to you, then by all means go for the Daytona + Apple combination. It also depends on whether you are a "one watch person" (again, go for the Daytona) or think of yourself as getting more watches down the road (in this case, stay put, because both the Speedy and the Sub are nice pieces to have, and you can add the Daytona later).

Ya these darn Apple Watch's have definitely shown their utility. The Daytona has been something on my mind since it was released - obsessed much? Lol.

I've appreciate your points. I've been focused on "minimalism" lately, and I've been trying to apply that to all aspects of my life. I have a small collection of watches, but have sometimes found myself justifying having only one watch.

That being said, it's best that I not make any rash decisions. I can afford the Daytona through the grey market...but there's this practicality in which I'd also be the kind of guy to have one watch + Apple Watch.

Of course, I will likely have regrets. I'm going in circles haha.

I'm leaning more towards this. There's the least amount of regret with keeping all and adding, unless I was in some sort of financial pinch.

It’s tough having your only mechanical watch being on an oyster with PCLs (Daytona or not). Unless you will only wear it when going out at night.

If it were me, I’d miss the diver.

I’d trade the speedy and add cash for the Daytona

Late last year I bought a Garmin Forerunner for exercise. I've found it useful for the health/activity tracking also so often where it while at home as well as out hiking, running etc.

That said, when I'm at work, out shopping or for any other reason really, I'll put on one of my 'proper' watches. These gadgets have utility, but don't diminish my love for mechanical watches.

In relation to your dilemma - you already have 2 iconic watches that are great in their own right. If you also want to add a further classic with the Daytona, then why not? If you subsequently feel one of your other watches just aren't getting the wrist time any more, then you can always consider selling/gifting one in the future.

I’ve been refusing to buy an Apple Watch and hope to continue to do so. I figure if my focus is on health then I should forge healthy habits vs tracking it all and frankly people can already reach me whenever they want to on my phone. I’d actually like to be less connected! That said you’ll lose on a trade. I’d either keep what you have or sell them outright and get what you want.

That is very true. The only thing I liked about the jubilee on my previous GMT was that it seemed to hide scratches better. I'm really thinking that the Daytona would be worn regularly, but not at work or anything. So it would be an "evening" watch. Thanks for thought!

I like this. Basically, add the Daytona and feel out having 3 iconic watches and an Apple Watch

I'm fully anticipating this. I've made some decent profits but the stock market is not following market reality. I've had Shopify since it was 300 CDN and now it's 1000CDN...I love the company, but it's trading at an insane multiple.

I'm leaning towards simply adding a Daytona, keeping what I have, and feeling out the situation. I like the suggestion from an earlier poster in which the Apple Watch is more like this separate tool, rather than a watch replacement.

I will love mechanical watches forever. Ironically, the individual that got me into the Apple Watch has 3 Rolex's of his own that he's picked up over the past 2 years

I workout a lot and thought the Apple Watch would be a great addition. I just didn’t get any value from it whatsoever. Wore it for about 2 weeks then just switched back to my speedy racing as my gym partner. I get it has uses for other people but found it useless personally.

As for your other question I’d say go for it. If the Daytona is constantly on your mind and the speedy + sub is your ticket to it then cash em in and don’t look back.

I once wore my Speedy to the gym - it was actually pretty awesome!
