You ever like a watch you previously didn’t?

Over time tastes change and you might find yourself wanting something you previously didn’t.

For example I was indifferent to a BLRO until I had seen one in person and it is an absolutely beautiful watch.

I saw the post yesterday about the alleged rumors of the Hulk being discontinued and I couldn’t care less. On my drive to work this morning I found myself thinking “that’s actually a pretty cool watch” I will not go buy one but all of a sudden I don’t hate it.

Has that ever happened to anyone else?

Absolutely, I think it’s an evolution.

I bought a MilgaussGV 10 years ago because it didn’t look like a typical Rolex and my wife insisted I got a Rolex.

That got me to respect and appreciate Rolex for its ability to perform under any circumstance.

Then I fell in love with the JC because of its ruggedness and the blue colour and most of my office suits/shirts are blue.

And then i started to like the SkyDweller because of the size and useful complication.

The Exp II because of its functionality and the comfort and finally the Full Gold DayDate which 10 years ago I wouldn’t have bought...

So... yes!

My Bluesy, for sure. I used to say that I would rather be put punched in the nuts for five minutes than own a two tone. Then I actually tried on a bluesy, complete turn around.

I'm coming around to Steel/Gold Datejusts, I never cared from them in the past, but there are some examples that I LOVE now.

Absolutely... I really didn't care for the 116900 Air-King... But now I think it's the most unique watch in the Rolex lineup and definitely the most unique watch I own!

Absolutely... In my early days of collecting I told myself I wouldn't buy a Rolex. At the time I was anti-Rolex because I didn't want what everyone had. Fast forward to when I was traveling with a co-worker with a vintage GMT and I was sold. I told myself that if I were to ever own a Rolex it would be 1 of the following...

Vintage GMT
Vintage Daytona
Zenith Daytona

To this day I haven't owned any if the above but they'll always be on the list.

Yes - the Milgaus, the Explorer I (old school, without the white gold), and the modern turnograph.

Used to think a PP 5167 was an uggo, but now have come to appreciate it.

Always thought the Daytonas were perfect from the get go though.

Yep. I didn't like early photos of the BLNR at all. Feelings changed over time and, when I found one at an AD and saw it in "the flesh," I purchased on the spot...and it's the watch I wear most now.

Green Sub, PP 5711 (as a result missed the opportunity to buy the Kermit and PP when they were easily available at MSRP or less ), SS Daytona (loved the 500c version from day one though), JC DSSD

I was not interested in the exp1 before at all. Then as time passed I found myself wanting simple watches. The exp1 now looks very nice

The biggest turn around for me was a two tone rolex, may it be DJ or Sub. in my 20s, I think some of the most prevalent Rolex I have seen was TT DJ. I never like the look at all. In my collecting journey I had mostly SS pieces and then I bought a YG DD when I was around 36. Then couple years later I ended up buying the TT bluesy.

The DSSD, thought it was a ridiculous looking monstrosity when I first strapped it around the wrist. Couple of years later I had to have one

I'd say one for me would be the Yacht-Master 40. I was always pretty ambivalent to it but right now there aren't many watches in the Rolex catalogue I'd put above the blue dial YM40.

14270,114270 but they grew on me. the 114270 is the only 6 digit serial rolex I'll own probably. I didn't consider these for a long time well into the newer OPs were released but I was after a simple time only watch with a screw down crown. At first it just seemed like a glorified oyster perpetual with a different dial color and the word Explorer on it. Also a consolation prize for those after the cost prohibitive 1016. But now I can see why some people choose it as their exit watch.

I have noticed that my taste in watches has expanded. Thankfully so as I now recognize that all watches have their merits both mechanically and aesthetically.

The Air-King isn't appreciated except for those that own them. A great reference!!!

I think the only way I could accurately answer this question is if I bought a watch I did not like.

Hated any Rolex with a bezel at first. Also hated the APRO and PP Nautilus at first...

Clearly none of that is true now!

I have to be absolutely sure before I dislike a watch. There is a reason why, maybe the dial or strap or accuracy or any other reason. And since it will always be peculiar with it, I don't see myself liking it overtime.

I was always a no date and no cyclops guy but because of that my options in the Rolex line-up were very limited.

But with the introduction of the DJ41 I made the step and bought a DJ41 (of course with a date and cyclops) and I really like it the way it is.

Mine was the Skydweller. When released I was not jazzed about it, but when the SS version came in blue I was sold. I did not care for the Roman numerals either and much prefer the batons . Now it is one of my favorite watches. The movement is genius and could not be easier to set etc.

Initially, these two were not on my radar, however, they are two of my favorite watches.

Gotta say. I actually wasn’t a huge fan of the ceramic White Dial Daytona when it first came out. It was too stark in contrast and I opted for the black dial since it seemed more natural.

I still love the black dial but here I am a couple years later looking for a White Dial Daytona. Damn it.

I used to only see value in watches with a toothed rotating numeric bezel for some reason. Explorer I, II Datejust Milgauss etc were plain, utterly unimpressive and simplistic to me. Any Patek Philippe would have seemed absolutely bonkers if I'd known what one was. What an ignorant person I was.

I will have to say it was every Rolex before. I used to be more of an Omega guy until they launched all those LEs.

Then through transition it was the Explorer as my least favourite, but now the Explorer sits as my favourite Rolex amongst all the models.

I definitely did’t like the new Airking and DJII at the beginning. Not even close.
But they grew into my taste. Now I love them.
