Out of the two options I would reluctantly pick the Cartier.
It's not my personal style of watch but I consider it to be more of a "dress watch". |

I have a SSDJ41, white dial, fluted bezel with jubilee. I've worn to a black tie wedding, cocktail parties, fancy dinners along with playing golf/tennis and at work. It can go anywhere.
However, I have a couple of friends with nice dress watches. One has a Cellini Time with a leather strap and the other wears a classic gold Tank also with a leather strap. I would seriously consider either as a strictly dress watch, but might lean toward the classic look of a tank. DJ41.jpg |

Neither is a “dress” watch. Having said that, you could where either one in a dressy situation, and not come off as a hayseed.

Sorry, “wear,” not “where.”

OP, also you may want to consider Jacquet Droz - they’ve got some really good watches. And deals on them last time I saw at the boutiques in Sentosa. 25-30% off easy.
Of both your options, I’d vote for Cartier being more dressy.

I have no use for a dress watch (suit once a year) but this is what I would pick. My AD just had a leap year event where all watches excluding Rolex were 25% off and I almost bought this exact watch. It's an amazing value, even at retail.
Beautiful

I just picked this one up for formal occasions. I did not want the classic two hand dress watch, which would hardly be worn. I feel with this JLC, I can wear for an evening out to a formal dinner, etc.

Cartier, only because it is more of a dress watch. I picked a JLC Reverso for something dressy.

Cartier is my favorite dress watch, even after I had a Calatrava. The Cartier Tank Solo XL on a strap is a great buy, both 18k and stainless. Really good proportions.
I have a Louis Cartier Ronde. |

I vote Datejust, but this is the Rolex Forum so maybe I'm a little biased

Thanks for your opinions guys
I chose those two because I can find them at the same budget around usd 3.5k and below As a dress watch, I foresee I won’t wear it often, so I limit the budget little lower. Also accounting the fact that I have around six watches in total and the cost of maintenance/Service is something I have to consider in the long run. If not for the long term servicing cost, I will be looking at the VC 81160 or a nice white blank dial duo face reverso. Looks like Cartier tank had the majority vote |

I tried this piece but it does nothing for me because I don’t like silver dial.
If only jlc does the cream White dial on this stainless steel model that it has currently on its precious metal model. I really like the cream dial on the gold jlc master ultra thin moonphase |
