Transitional dial DJ

The common gripes I see in the forum about roman dials is that they are too cluttered.(hence they favor baton sticks)

The 16234 actually produced two different set of dials from end 80s to late 90s and then late 90s onwards use a newer current modern dial

The older dial is thinner and appear less cluttered. The new dial looks like the Roman numerals are in bold format while the crown still appears the same size, hence the appearance of being cluttered but actually it’s because the crown is small compared to the much larger or fatter Roman numerals (one of the photo shows)

So would you go for the vintage dial or the current modern dial for 16234

Let me know what you think in the polls thank you

Seems like I’m gonna get the thin vintage roman style

I was not aware of those thinner Romans but they’re gorgeous. Kind of almost an Art Deco thing going on with the lack of serif. Looks like the older version was also lumped.

I'm a fan of the serif font - fits the 'classical' roman theme.

For the 2 options shown I actually like the modern one more, its growing on me.

However, my favorite white DJ with romans is the 16030 "Buckley dial".

16234 is the best Datejust. Classic design but with "modern" 3135 caliber and sapphire.

Buckley is cool but comes with plexi, not sapphire

I might be crazy - I voted for the current roman dial, although I think that the old school roman dial is "more Rolex".. but I do like the current as it 'pops'.

Thats really good to know, might actually be a deal breaker because if I tried to buy one the plexi would probably always be all scratched up?

If they made the current white DJ 36 with black printed romans and black hands I probably would have bought it instead of the black with sticks. Too bad, I love the high contrast look of the black hands and numbers on the white dial.
