One watch Collection

I would like to poll everyone's opinion for a one watch Collection. Here are the options.

116500LN white dial
BLNR Oyster bracelet
Tudor Pelagos black dial
Tudor BB GMT

Please pick one and explain your reason.

Thanks for your feedback.

If forced to pick one of the four you proposed, probably would pick the BLNR.

Out of those choices, I think the 116500LN is the one. It's obviously the most popular Rolex in the last 10+ years and has the most appreciation since released. If you like the stylings of the Daytona, you can't go wrong with the white dial and the black ceramic. Easily the most recognizable watch on the planet.

I'll play...

BB GMT

Why?

A useful complication.

Classic Rolex GMT "DNA" aesthetics.

Substantial but not uncomfortable wrist presence.

Can be worn with a variety of straps.

Accuracy of the MT5652 and extended power reserve.

Much more updated and robustly made in comparison to the 5 digit Rolex equivalents.

Vintage / 2nd hand market is a real minefield in several countries and I would never buy, especially having seen just how much polishing goes into a pre-owned piece before it reaches the display. Simply not worth it imho, really. The GMT gives you just that old school look without the headaches.

Doesn't cost a fortune, in fact it slightly depreciates at the moment so it qualifies for a "beater" without 2nd thoughts.

The only reason I would part with it is getting bored. But I don't see this happening any time soon.

116500 is a great ‘only watch’. I sold mine in favour of a 116519, but that’s because it’s part of a collection, if I was having only one watch, it would be the 500.

Don’t really like the BLNR (had one and sold it) and much prefer the BLRO (which I have and will not be selling).

Pelagos is a lovely watch, but it’s limited and one-dimentional in terms of wear.

Don’t like the BB GMT

Tudor Pelagos

Readily available/ won’t break the bank/ plain & classic looks

(Not sure I’d use one watch & collection in same sentence though)

From the 4 options I’d say BLNR. I do love a Daytona but for a one and only would want a date complication and the bezel can be used for timing things on the BLNR.

I went from having a BLNR and SUBc ND to a SD4K as a one and only as find the timing abilities and all black more suitable more of the time

+1 to this. I’d also do the 116500 and it’s still a versatile watch that can be used with anything.

BLNR for me. Has date, second time zone, wears a little larger, and really doesn’t look like an expensive watch, but you will know it’s a Rolex. Ideally both Daytona and BLNR would be a great 2 watch collection.

BLNR
time, date and gmt function.
Oyster version best of two BLNR options.
First Rolex with bi colour cerachrom bezel.
40mm size perfect.
Easy link bracelet
Maybe not the most desirable of the two Rolex options on this list but the most versatile.
Tudor options, both nice watches, had both, sold both.

Congratulations at the ambition to own just one mechanical watch. Good idea, if tricky to stick to. You’ve artificially limited the choice a bit too much, so the GMT if I must. Not sure the GMT function gets much use, but the bezel looks nice.

For a one and done SD43. Out of your choices I could live with the BLNR as a one and done. I have the BLNR and it’s more versatile than I thought. It looks black in darker settings and that’s a plus as you can dress it up with the PCLs and it’s also casual and sporty with the oyster bracelet.

I am torn between the BLNR and Daytona on this one. I have both, though the Daytona is a black dial. They are my two most favorite, get worn the most, and seem to get equal wrist time. If I had to sell all my watches and keep only one, it would have to be the Daytona. Ask me again tomorrow and I might tell you something different :)

Of those choices BLNR

My 1 watch choice would probably be a 41mm DJ, blue dial oyster bracelet, fluted bezel
Or
16750 Pepsi simply because it’s got all the complications you need for a 1 watch collection and a selection of inserts and a ruggedness about it
