Help-This look legit (Omani Khanjar emgraving) ?
I don't believe I've seen one of these without the emblem on the dial ? Is it normal to just have the engraving on the back ?
Does it all look legit, in your opinion ? Thanks for the help

I would have thought the engraving would devalue it unless it gives provenance.

That’s why you see so many doctored watches, lucrative trade. A fool and his money OP; it’s normal to have an engraving on the back without the dial having it or v.v. You need the original papers and box to verify it’s an Omani watch in the first place. Without these it’s considered to be fake imo.

with the modern references the logo is generally only engraved on case back. there will be nothing on the dial. with these watches, its important to have provenance, otherwise i do not think you can prove it. i believe the original paperwork/card would have to say it. search youtube for examples.

Loads of watches around with Omani crest on the caseback. I wouldn't call them fake. Day-Dates mainly. Value isn't affected from what I've seen. Not sure why paperwork showing it belonged to some Omani chap would make a difference. Condition first rules apply imo. As always.

It’s just a case back and can be replaced?

realistically Omani watches are only extremely valuable if they're a rare/desirable reference, have a good history(given to Special forces, leaders, etc), and have documentation. There were plenty of loose dials floating around on ebay for years, many fake, some authentic, but non original to the watch they're in. it will carry a slight premium over an unmarked model, but I would not pay drastically more for it. I would imagine they would mainly appeal to middle easterners. can't imagine too many westerners have a clue what a Sultan even is.
Rolex doesn't allow modification of modern dials from what i've read, and that is why the casebacks are now engraved instead of dial inscriptions. |

What that engraving does is limit the addressable market for resale. In other words, some prospective buyers would just avoid it.
For those who don’t mind an engraved back, it doesn’t really affect the value if there is an interesting backstory. As for your potential offer - it’s one item in your list of reasons to offer a lower price than the seller is asking. If it’s been hanging around in the seller’s inventory, you may get a deal done on your terms. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

It would definitely increase the price especially if you sell it in Oman or other gulf countries. Such pieces are being sold for good money on “Instagram auctions” in those countries nowadays. I come from that region.
And yes I have seen many case back being engraved. I actually believe that they used to have the logo/emblem on the dial with older models, but now they are engraving the case backs. These pieces are actually gifted through the “Diwan of Royal Court of Oman/Al-Amiri Diwan in other gulf countries” which are the headquarters and the permanent centre of the country's rulers. If the box has the Omani emblem as well, then that’s a legit piece from the Diwan of Royal Court of Oman. |
