Rotating a Dive Watch Bezel Underwater: Is It Safe?

I just rotated the bezel on my Tudor BB58 after washing it in a sink. I was wondering if this was safe and if there was any risk that water got in the case.

You’re fine, bezel is outside of the actual case. It is designed that way so you can operate it underwater.

Ha! It's a serious question. I thought I knew the answer, but I wanted to hear from people who knew more about the technical workings of the bezel.

You must never, ever, get a dive watch wet under any circumstances! Everyone knows this, right?!

Asking if water got in during a bezel rotation -IN THE SINK - on a DIVE WATCH?

That 200m actually means something ...

On 300m watches you can set the time under water in addition to moving the bezel.

Rotating a Dive Watch Bezel Underwater: Is It Safe?

It is safe. A dive watch bezel is intended to be rotated right before a dive. This is typically done in the water right before the bcd would be evacuated of all air and the divers begins descent.

Enjoy your watch

They made a cleaning video and everything!

Although I don't seem to be able to link but Tudor have a YouTube site how to.

It’s not safe. Do not listen to those who lead you astray. (Not to be confused with ashtray).

The (number)m e.g. 100m - stands for the grade of steel used in the watch.

If you get these dive watches wet, then something rather adverse happens; Time starts moving backwards. This means you will end up repeating things you’ve already done that day.

All I’m saying is, It’s just not a good idea. Okay.

It is also intended to be rotated during a dive, when timing decompression stops. The knurled bezel makes it easy to grip when wet and when wearing gloves.

Trying to keep it simple. There are very few of us who actually dive with these things. You, me, Brian, the legendary Peter, and a handful of other members

As long as your tap was not below 300m you should be fine.

Oh I'm sure. I just wanted to point out that being rotated underwater was something it was designed to do.

Hey, I've seen people try and change the film in an underwater camera... underwater. An example of design that may be waterproof when submerged but has different rules underwater than on the surface.

Ease up. There is a first time of ownership of a dive watch for everyone. He came to the forum for info, not to get ridiculed.

I dropped mine on the tile floor. Case and bezel have a nice dent but it’s still ticking away as it was regulated. -.5 sec/ day
