Vintage newbie

Hi!

My name is Serge, 26 yrs old and born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
I'm new to the forums and "new" to Rolex. After my degree and first job I finally had some cash to kick-start my passion, collecting vintage watches.
I mainly focus on sixties chronographs.

"Unfortunately" I just bought a new house, so this means no cash for new pieces this year. What it does mean is that I have a lot of time to read into the subject of vintage Rolex. I already discovered that it's a real jungle that up until now has kept me far away from it. This has changed after I acquired a 1969 Zenith El Primero (3019PHC movement) last year. The link with Rolex was easy.

So now with a lot of time and no cash, I really want to gain knowledge etc. on the vintage Rolex subject.
I hope to learn a lot from these forums (and use the search button often ).
But maybe you guys can give a newbie to vintage Rolex some tips on good books, links for me to explore.

Favourite vintage Rolex for me at the moment is a 5512. Partially because of Steve and the fact it’s so brilliantly clean and simple (and still “reasonably” priced ).
Definitely THE watch on my list when I want to take the plunge. Got to love the patina on a nice 5512.

Cheers!

Welcome to TRF, Serge. Stick around and you'll learn a lot from the experts here.

Myself, not into vintage. But I know a bunch of members here are. I'm sure you'll get all the help you need and then some.

Hi Serge,

A big welcome to TRF!

Know the feeling with finances, Itching for another Rolex but both cash and my lovely Wife are putting a stop for the moment :-)

Stick around and you'll get all the info you need! like Pav showing off his 5512, gorgeous classic!!!!

Hope the weather is treating you well there, on a previous contract I was flown to The Hague every now and then, and couldn't help myself and enjoyed Amsterdam and the surrounding areas, I still work now with a few of my old workmates who are Dutch, some of my now best friends, congratulations on the house too, I know property close to Amsterdam is now quite expensive.

Enjoy!

Cheers,

Dave.

@ All; Thanks!

@ Onkyo; The 5512 is a stunner, very nice!

@ Dave; Have played some rugby with a bunch of "crazy" Aussies for a couple of years here in Holland, but after a serious head injury had to stop. Want to keep the brains intact. But good fun!
The Hague is a very beautiful city, they have a couple of shops with very nice watches.
Don't get me started about property here around Amsterdam. But in the end managed to get what I was looking for.
Cheers!
