Nato band wear?
I'm told that wearing a Nato band for a while will cause a wear mark on the case eventually wearing any lettering away. Is this true. If so would this also be the case with a leather Nato style band?
Thank you |

I can tell you that my 16610 has spent ALOT of time on a nice NATO and it does not show any signs of wearing down any lettering? In fact, what lettering are you worried about wearing down?
The strap does not touch the reference or serial numbers... If you have an SD, I guess it would make contact with the engraving on the caseback, but again... I cant imagine it wearing down any! |

No!
I suppose if you wore it 24/7 for 60 years this may be a problem. But no more than just wearing it against your wrist! These timepieces are built like a tank! They can take anything you want to deliver. Enjoy them anyway you like and POST LOTS OF PHOTOS!!!!

I have a Tudor Submariner and there is lettering on the case back similar to the Sea Dweller. I was told the nylon from the band will eventually leave a shiney band shaped swath across the back.

The Rolex Mil Subs and the Tudor MNs were worn on Natos and seem non the worse as far as the case back lettering

I can tell you first hand that wearing nato's for many years (decades) will wear a line in the case back, but it will not rub the metal away enough to make any difference. Before I caught the Rolex bug, I used to collect vintage British military watches, across the case back you could see exactly were the nato used to rest. I have owned many dozens of British mil. watches and probably 60% of them had these markings. I wish I had some pics but I don't think I do, if I find some I will post them. The line across the back almost looked like a tan line, but the area were the nato rested was a little darker. I don't know if a Rolex would be affected like some of the lesser brands from years past, but the markings are so faint, it doesn't even matter.

I have a Tudor Sub as well that has only ever been on a nato and I too have a very faint line across the back, however no effect on lettering. Small price to pay as I prefer Nato straps to bracelets.

Just like bracelets if you don't clean them [and the watch] from time to time the grime will show wear. But a regular cleaning is all you need. In fact, you can throw a Nato in the laundry and you're good as new.
