Seamaster Pro - they’ve ruined it.

About fifteen years ago I owned a Seamaster professional (ie the “Bond watch”). I sold it and purchased myself a Rolex. Just today I looked into purchasing another Seamaster and found that the only improvement they’ve made to it was the addition of the coaxial escapement and hour markers housed in gold.

The crown is still too small for the watch, and the helium escape valve now looks like a miniature upside down cake. What was wrong with the old shape, and what possessed them to choose this one? And what was wrong with the original hour hand?

The biggest blunder is moving the date window to the 6:00 position. This is not ‘standard’ placement for diving chronometers. It’s something you’re more likely to find on a dress watch.

I’m sure it’s a fine watch as it always has been, but Omega really made some unsavory changes to it.

And for what? Why couldn’t they at least keep the original Bond watch? It was a classic.

They are catering to a new generation of Seamaster fans - people like me. The old Seamaster never did anything for me, although iconic. I love the updates!

Fair opinion. That being said, the Diver 300M with the laser-etched wave dial is very attractive — in every color — and has been met with overwhelmingly positive response.

Man, someone coming back after 15 years at Omega SM and blasting it for being similar!

On other hand, what's your thoughts on Kermit released in 2003 and Cermit released in 2020?

Sorry to hear of your disappointment. You can still find a really nice used 2531.80 to purchase (the original reference considered to be the Bond watch). Most members here love the current version, and I imagine there will be plenty of replies accordingly.

Personally, I wish they would bring back the 36mm midsize version. The white in 36mm would look perfect(to me at least lol).

You don't have to like it at all. But imo this is a magnificent watch that far exceeds the older incarnations.

Seamasters haven't been the same since they put those terrible looking skeleton hands on them.

I love mine. I have the black one. I think these new ones are much better looking than the old ones of which I did own one. Plus the movement is far superior but the OP did mention that.

The sword hands look much better to me as well.

I've been wearing my 2220.80 almost every day for the past 12 years. Love this watch and i have zero desire to upgrade.

I preferred it when the word “Seamaster” was written in white. It was more clear, more legible, and more attractive as white cursive text. There was absolutely no reason to make it red. Omega’s first itch to screw around with what was a gorgeous watch.

The only changes I’d have made to the watch would have been to make the crown larger. The hour markers housed in metal looks fine too.

I have to agree. I was real close to making a good deal at the Omega AD but just couldn't pull the trigger, also not a fan of the deep wave dial. Its still a nice piece and I'm sure I would have been happy had I not known of the original Bond version so with a little patience I kept looking until the right one for me came along from 2006.

Hate this watch! Kidding! I find it hard to wear anything else... definitely different than the older models. I’m digging the changes.

I'm not a fan of the skeleton hands, date placement, or HE valve. Besides that, for the price (especially used) I think they offer excellent value.

Seamaster Pro - they’ve ruined it.

This is a funny thread title. The Seamaster Pro series is mighty fine series. I have the older Bond 2220.80 and 2254.50 and will never part with them. Omega enhanced the whole line-up and came up with the new series and I think they did a bang-up job with that. Whichever series work for you, go with that. There’s no need to talk ill.

I had a 2254.50 for years and loved the watch and at times still regret selling. With that being said I love just about everything about the new iterations

Agreed. 15 posts and already dedicated to trashing what he doesn't like. Some would say troll.

Edit. On looking at history, yes troll I smell Roli fan boy with an oversized Sub.

I have the 2054 and the new 300m diver. I keep the 2054 for the memories and because $2K isn't worth dealing with selling but the new one is better in nearly every way.

The new watch is just a lot nicer than the old one in so many ways. It’s gone from feeling like a watch that hardly justified it’s price tag to a watch that is undervalued based on what it offers compared to the competition.
I love mine. Would I prefer a slightly smaller case yes? But overall it’s one of the best sport watches for the $$ out there.

I've had the old and now have the new. My old generation was a great watch but my new generation 300M is magnificent and I wear it 24/7.
