I know some don't like these polls but I'm just curious what others think.

I've been lusting over the Yellow Gold Black dial sub for years. Been shopping around lately and am thinking of doing a trade towards one.

Here's the deal. I'd be giving up the following:
116710 BLNR (2017 full set)
116710 LN (2018 BNIB fully stickered)
116400 Black dial clear crystal Migauss (2008 full set)
+ 4-5K

I'd be receiving:
116618 LN (full set BNIB)

This would leave me without a GMT (I do have an Exp II). Although I do prefer divers from Rolex I like the GMT line as well. I've expressed my interest in the BLRO with a couple AD's and I do think one of them will eventually come through although that's not a guarantee.


Am I giving up too much in the trade? Money wise I think I'm doing alright (I have about ~25k into my three watches)

That is a lot to give up! I recently went through a trade giving up 2 watches plus $, but I think 3 watches plus that $ is too much. I'd move the LN and the milgauss plus addt'l cash instead.

Not a slim chance in hell would I make that trade.

I paid 28k NIB from the AD for my gold sub. Picked it up 4/2020. Sold it 6/2020

Color me opposite of most people on this forum. Just because it’s gold doesn’t make it four times more enjoyable compared to a steel watch.

The weight is amusing at first. Annoying later on. Scratches and dings up very easily.

FWIW, I fully intend on picking up a two tone sub in the future. Same amount of enjoyment. Less than half the price.

Even if you look at a monetary view, that’s just a big loss in your boat.

BLNR’s going for 14-18k USD
LN’s are 11-14k
Milgauss 7-8k

Here's the values the dealer gave me on my watches:
BLNR $14k-I think this is fair
LN $12.5K- $1-1.5k short IMO (another dealer quoted me 10K lol)
Migauss $6k - +/- 1K short IMO

I would not do this trade with any cash out of pocket on your end.

Here's how I would look at it:

The 116710 BLNR is worth $14-16K
The 116710 LN is worth $11-12.5K
The 116400 Milgauss is worth $7-8K
The 116618 LN is worth $33- $35K

This means that you are trading $32K-$36.5K of your watches for one piece between $33-35K.

It's like they are valuing your trades at the lowest end of the market and theirs at the upper end. With that cash your essentially spending $36-36K for a watch thats not worth that much IMO.

If you really want it i would push for no cash on top or no deal.

You're pretty spot on with those numbers. The dealer quoted me $37.5k for the BNIB Sub

OP, as much as I like the gold Sub, I don't think it's worth the asking price. At a good 25% discount like it used to be a few years ago, maybe. I wouldn't make that swap, personally.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I've entertained the idea of selling three watches + cash for a white gold Sub in the past. Not that I really love it, but hanging around here for long it's like a flu you eventually get from reading so many threads about it, but I think that would end up happening with me as well. This year I sold a watch with 205 grams. It was intolerable for me to wear for more than a couple days. Replaced with one that weights 167 grams and still feels uncomfortable sometimes. My sweet spot is 150g. The weight that most sports Rolex in SS have nowadays thankfully.

Haha, that is truly a rip-off quote by that dealer, 10k for a NOS GMT2C. It's not that I'm critical of him for trying to net better margins, but that is just hilarious.

Have to agree my friend ... heavier isn’t always better, and one of the reasons I moved my SD43 and Dblue along.

I also prefer SS professional references to PM, but I do understand the draw for many here

I traded 2 to obtain my five digit gold sub and have zero regrets. I did not have to add any cash though. I have really enjoyed owning the gold sub and it is my daily. I think if you really want to get into one I would do the deal with no cash or hold my nose and maybe give up 1k or so. Good luck.

Same here my friend.

In my case it gets worse because unlike the majority here I'm right handed and I wear my watches on my right wrist. When you wear a watch on your dominant wrist the watch can't be heavy because everything you do along the day you need that arm and hand. When the day ends it's exhausting. When I was in love with any heavy watch I owned in the past I used to wear on the left wrist to make it more bearable, but I ended up selling every time because IMHO the watch must adapt to my needs and not the other way around.

It's easy to get caught up in the idea of a new watch (especially a gold one!) But after looking back over the numbers I agree, I'd be giving up too much on my end.

Maybe it's time I just peel the stickers and enjoy that LN...
