Call me crazy...

I am officially 1st in line for the new Explorer 124273 at my AD in Midland, Texas. I’ve been wanting to get my feet wet and test the TT waters and I’ve also been eyeing vintage 36mm Explorers so I think I’m going to try and kill two birds with one stone. I know that so far the watch is getting a lot of confusion and hate but the dial is definitely speaking to me. Wish me luck in my hopefully short wait!

I think people don’t like it simply because they didn’t expect it. Personally, I love it.

It definitely caught me flat footed that’s for sure. And I will admit the first few minutes I did not like it. But it’s been growing on me at a very rapid pace all morning. But I agree... it came way out of left field. Anyone that said they saw it coming isn’t being honest with themselves.

Aesthetically I don’t mind it, but feel the DJ in two tone is the better buy here.

I didn’t see it coming... and I wish I could un-see it. It’s not attractive.

Good for you. I think it's a good-looking watch and as you said, you were looking a getting a two-tone watch and looking at 36mm explorers. This should be right in your wheelhouse.

For those of us with TT Datejust 41 (like me, I have the 126333), this could be an interesting add. Smaller, but more "rugged/sporty" at the same time.

IDK, I feel the TT Explorer was the best of the bunch. The others were dull AF.

Well...good news for you OP because I think it will be a very easy watch to buy. I just don't understand the point of it at all. If you want a flashy 36mm watch...buy a DateJust...way more options and better looking to boot.

Congrats, let us know what you think of it once you get it.

I think the issue that most of us have with it is ideological. It's as good looking as any two-tone 36mm Rolex, but it has always been a hard-core sports/exploration watch made in SS only. Adding gold kind of shoves the reality in our faces that these are no longer tool watches, they are now jewelry.

Agreed, a lot of people living in denial. Rolex marketing is also fueling this idiotic idea.

I definitely understand where you are coming from. The realization is a hard pill to swallow. Rolex has been making jewelry since before 2010. The 6 digit wide lugged Subs were the moment things changed in my opinion. And don’t get me wrong, I’ve always been a purist of the mindset that the Explorer should be in SS only. To me an extreme move would have been a white dial...(I’m still holding out hope) which is why I’m so shocked that I am falling in love with the TT Explorer. I don’t want to like it. But I love it. I guess whoever coined the saying was right when they said “Love is Blind”.

I also see it as a bit of a competitor to the BB58 as the black dial, gilt accents, smaller size may look very similar on wrist - the two tone bracelet and gold bezel adds a bit of flash versus the more understated dive bezel / steel bracelet of the BB58

I agree. I believe it will compliment my BB58 nicely.

I personally think it looks nice. I'd prefer the steel version for everyday wear, but I wouldn't refuse a TT if offered to me.

I wouldn’t refuse a SS version either but I just bought a Stainless Black DateJust36 so it definitely would skew too close to that watch IMO hence why I prefer the TT. But I DEFINITELY understand how the SS will be the one that everyone will be after!

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike it. I won't buy one, but it doesn't bother me at all. More options are always better, and I agree with you completely that Rolex has been making jewelry for a long time now.

I love the fact that you love it! Wear it proudly, and like I said, please share your impressions here once you get it.
