Only just realised that the 1655..

Had the phantom hands. Both stunning imo. Can’t believe they’re now gone.

1655 is nothing but excellent in my opinion. I can understand why you would not like it, but from a design point, it’s a great watch.

I hope one day they bring back the phantom hands, but also to change the dial to bars like the 1655 instead of the big dots like the sub has always had.

IMO the phantom hands worked so much better on the 1655 than they did on the 216570. For a start the black part was the same length on the 1655’s hands, whereas they aren’t on the 216570, which always looked really weird to me from an OCD point of view. Plus I never liked the tiny bit of lume left below the Mercedes circle - always looked too fussy somehow. Removing the phantom hands from the updated model is the best part about it.

The 1655 was, and still is IMO, the perfect Explorer II. I know Rolex don’t do re-editions, but a modern version of the 1655 - modern bracelet, sapphire crystal, etc - would be the best thing Rolex have made in years.

Agreed on the 216570. You obviously wore one for a while!

I also think the texture, color and finish had to match between the 'phantom' and the dial. Was not possible on the 216570 as it had the almost brown matte tone to it. Glossy black finish on the hands never matched well.

Very excited to see the new update first hand.

Yes, the phantom hands are one more thing that makes this a slightly different, and perhaps more special, Rolex.
