One of those, Should I be concerned about this?

So while at work I couldn't help but place my 16710 under the microscope and I found something a bit concerning... I assume the lettering under Rolex, where it reads Oyster Perpetual are supposed to be 600 μm... But as you can see, it's not.

I may just let it slide...

I'd be more concerned that there is a little 3 μm wiggle in the E lettering ROLEX... send it back and demand a new watch!

Someone will be along to tell you to put away the microscope but those people are just defenders of Rolex poor QC these days....

Obviously the AD sold you either a refurbished watch, or should train its staff to use electron microscopes to check the (poor) quality of the products!

A true shame, my Rolex is my life and my tool upon which my income depends. I would be livid in your stead! Ask them to provide you a full refund and 2 SS models (below MSRP) immediately, lest you write a stern letter to HQ in Geneva!

Not serious... even in the slightest. More of a parody of what is seen a lot of times.

It's a real sad state when you're not 100% sure that this post is satire.

Looks like you posted a fake Rolex. You are now commanded to send it to me for slow, multi decade-long 'destruction' on my wrist.

what was the ambient temperature?

Could it be "shrinkage"?

I only took the one shot for fun... but may take more in the future.

Good call... however it was in a cleanroom, with constant temperature and humidity. The scope is calibrated accordingly.

On the money here. Linear expansion coefficient for brass is 19x10-6 per degree C. Needs to get pretty cold though. I'd say that's where your extra microns have gone.

The spacing is correct. It is 600 μm.

You are measuring centre line to centre line.

Try measuring outer to outer line.

You can relax now Problem solved.

On the contrary, I think your microscope software needs to be recalibrated. It's off by 0.558 μm. Pfft... must be Nikon...

Ken, I would have to check with our metrology dept. for the uncertainty value. The calibration certification is current, so it "should" be relatively accurate. There is going to be some variability... but should it be this far off?

Whoa... it's not Nikon, but it sounds like somebody doesn't like Nikon. Just going by your "Lithographica" name... youre what... An ASML guy? EVG? SUSS? Canon, Ultratech?
