16570 Cyclops Date is out of Focus

Hello all,
I recently purchased a naked no history 2001 Exp II (16570) and immediately had a full service done on it at the RSC. When I got it back I noticed the date is out of focus while looking through the cyclops. It isn’t dirty or damaged in any way so the only thing I can think of that would cause this is uneven glue? Underside of Cyclops isn’t flat? Maybe the crystal is aftermarket?

Is this normal or should I look into getting a new crystal?

This was RSC work?

Sloppy.

Ill just source a new crystal and take it to a local watchmaker, I’m not going to wait another 8 weeks to get something this small taken care of. I’m done with the RSC, thanks for the responses.

Why would they polish the crystal? If the crystal was worn wouldn't they just replace it? I mean, yeah, some jeweler's rouge by hand, but a machine polish?

Did RSC replace crystal? Do you recall if it looked like this before sending?

I’m assuming RSC would have noticed an aftermarket crystal and either refused service or insisted on replacement, no? Is it possible that when reassembling the watch they either smudged the underside or reattached the crystal a few degrees off?

Finally, is this your oldest Rolex? If it’s your first experience with a pre-05 model, it won’t have anti-reflective coating on cyclops.

They can and will only recommend a change under their "essential" work. It is solely a recommendation and they won't ever force it however, this is where the small print comes in... Failure to do so means that they don't gurantee the waterproofing of the watch.

But surely they’d insist/refuse service of crystal was aftermarket (assuming tech could tell), no?

Nope, they would highly recommend it and failure to do so they wouldn't gurantee the watch. Same with bracelets, links and clasps. You'd be silly not to change it, and Rolex will tell you that they really really encourage you to do so.

Complete different story for movements though.

There was no indication from the RSC that the crystal was aftermarket, if so, I would of had them replace it with a genuine part. The cyclops was this way before I sent it in, but since there was no mention of it being aftermarket so I figured it was genuine. I have a 16610 (1999 A serial) that does not have this issue, date is clean and clear. This Exp II is a K serial (2001-2) so no cyclops anti-glare.
