OK, I have discovered my perfect Rolex and it doesn’t exist.

yeah, so I have been wearing my sub 41 for about nine months. I can honestly say it is the best all around Rolex I have ever owned. It just wears perfect on my wrist, (I think) looks perfect, accurate (enough for me)… I just love it. Keep in mind, I had been lucky enough to purchase a white-faced SkyDweller a few months before from my AD, but eventually gave it up. It never felt right; lots of reasons but whenever I look at my Sub, it just feels perfect.

HOWEVER, I really miss the functions of a GMT, specifically the jumping hour hand and (of course) second time zone. With all the traveling I do those features really come in handy; but I just don’t like the 40 MM ceramic bezel GMT (and I had a new Pepsi a couple years ago). We could discuss this for about 30 threads but it just seems… “top heavy” on my wrist, and I really don’t like the appearance of the C bezel. It seems like the numbers are two big and the bezel too wide. My sub feels and wears better. Yes, I know, it is only one millimeter difference, (maybe not even that much) but I just find the aspect, or ratio of the watches’ dimensions perfect. It seems to wear flatter on my wrist too.
I don’t have dimensions to back this up, honestly just going off of feel and appearance.

So… the answer is obvious… A 41 MM GMT would be my perfect watch. All Rolex has to do is take the 3285, put it in the 41 sub case and there it is!!

Rolex? Are you listening? What are you thoughts, would you like to see the GMT move up to the 41 case or leave it as is?

I think a GMTMaster 41 is in the cards after Rolex released 41mm versions of the Datejust, OP and Submariner and phased out the 39mm OP and Explorer, and the 40mm Explorer II. Probably in a few years because the BLRO/BLNR are relatively new.

Buy the new 2021 model Explorer II ref: 226570.

I have the 41mm Sub-Date 126610 and decided I needed a travel dual Timezone watch. The Explorer II was the perfect choice for me.

I chose the White dial version so I had a bit of variety also.

I agree fully here. I've owned multiple 6-digit GMTs and each time I come away with the same thought -- just can't get on board with the font used on the numbers on the bezel. The font is too large, it doesn't look right. I much prefer the numbers on the aluminum inserts.

I’m always amazed the sub is seen as more attractive than the GMT. Trading 200m of WR I’ll never use for GMT function is a no brainier. I think it’s close to perfect, personally a little smaller and thinner would be nice but we can’t have it all

The maxi case is the worst looking offering of the past 20 years. How do you take the most iconic watches in history and make the case fatter while leaving the bracelet unchanged? Proportions are everything!! I think Rolex acknowledged this by slimming things back down for the new Sub. To me it would make zero sense to have their "cosmopolitan watch" stick with the bulky shape while making their diver more svelte. That leads me to believe a re-designed GMT is in the pipeline...

It’s about the proportions of the hands, maxi dial and typefaces of the bezel.

I love GMT, but I prefer the details of Submariner 2021.

I Had a 216750 for about two years Charles, it was a very nice watch, but honestly, after a while I found it to be a bit… too big or bulky(?). Hard to explain but when I tried on a DJ 41 I immediately liked the 41 size better. Yeah, I know, how much difference can one millimeter more or less make, but 41 just feels perfect; both my DJ41 and my sub 41 feel better then any 40 or 42 (or 43). Don’t get me wrong, that EX II is a fantastic watch! And I would really like to see the new one as compared to my 21, see if any of the changes make me feel differently. Congrats on your 22, it is probably my second favorite watch!

I went up to a 36mm and it was BIG I thought a god few years later.

6 Months ago i went upto the 41mm Submariner-date (126610)

Now I have on the new Exp II (226570) (42mm) and for the first 2 days I admit it felt a bit large ... I even went back to the Rolex boutique to have it adjusted whilst I was out and about because I was struggling size wise a bit I think I just was not comfortable.

Now, about 5 days later, I dont notice the extra size at all.

Its all a matter of perception and visual effects or tricks of the eyes on the mind.

I recently put my 36mm DD on again, I took it of again as it just was not right ... It felt and looked a lot too small.

Opinions are funny things as I personally absolutely love the Supercase on the 11 series!

I don't dislike the latest 12 series cases by any stretch, but I find they wear smaller than the 11's (despite the 0.3mm increase) on account of the slimmed down lugs.

I had exactly the same experience. My first Rolex was a 36mm which I bought in the mid 90's. It felt huge, but I soon got used to it.

I went shopping for a new 36mm a week ago and ended up getting a 41mm. The 36mm seems so small when I tried it on. I'd become used to watches getting gradually larger without even realising it.

I’ll take any of their modern watches, but with an easy to swap bracelet option. So that I could remove the oyster bracelet and put on a NATO if I felt like it, could go from presidential to leather on a Daydate, etc. (Yes, I realize that the odds of this occurring are extremely low, but hey…love my watches, I just wish that I could make changes like that.)

I would have agreed with you or at least wouldn’t have argued until I compared the DD2 to the DD40. I never thought such a (perceived) small change could affect the look. Anyway, only IMHO.

I've gone in the opposite direction. My first higher end watch was 44mm. I've gone down steady from there. My current lineup ranges from 34-42mm. I wear 34 pretty regular.
