New Rolex shipping container
I visited my AD this weekend. The new Rolex shipping container is a cheap looking white cardboard box. Not the plastic containers anymore. Frankly, very disappointed. It reminded me of some unlabeled cardboard container that could be containing anything ... certainly not a Rolex! AD said that Rolex is trying to be green for the environment. However, it can surely be more professional.

Who cares, it's a shipping container like you said. Are you buying a watch or a shipping box?

Considering recyclability, I’ll take cardboard any day of the week.

If it protects the watch in transit.. not a problem.

Do you have a common household usage for the older style shipping containers? Like, have you repurposed them into a wallet, or a piggy bank, or a container to store loose flash drives?

No big deal. The shipping container is not meant for you, it’s for the AD.

This is not what they mean when you resell it as having the original box and paper tho right?

I think the OP is saying the old clear plastic coffin is now cardboard. Provided the cardboard protects the watch, I agree with the move. ADs aren't supposed to be giving the coffin to the buyer, so they were just fulling landfills.

Companies are continually shifting towards sustainability and this perhaps is an example of it.

Glad to hear Rolex are going greener. Perhaps they’ll ditch plastic stickers too and rest them on petals instead.

Have to agree the most important bit is the watch and not the packaging stuff.

A million fewer styrofoam-filled plastic boxes a year is ok with me.

Good riddance! Considering these were disposable, broken apart and thrown straight into the garbage bin, cardboard is a major step forward. Well done Rolex! All that matters is the contents. |

Cannot wait for the sellers to start stating things like rare very collectible plastic Rolex discontinued shipping boxes for sale at crazy prices.

That plastic shipping container/coffin with the swing door was the only thing that ever really mattered to me.....

This reminds me of the thread where OP complained that he wasn’t given the plastic bezel protector.

I actually prefer these changes, one less thing for collectors/enthusiasts to freak out about.
I felt the same way about when they changed the serial numbers to something more generic that people couldn't use to date when they were made/released. |

You could never date 100% when any Rolex was made only a approximate date when the case was stamped between X&Y years. But Agee about the past obsession of serials same for the past case back holograms.
