For sale is an extremely rare mint condition 36mm pre-owned 18 karat yellow gold Rolex Day-Date “Howlite”. The 18238 is a T serial, circa 1996, and is fresh from RSC with a two year warranty on the work performed. While at factory service the Rolex received: a complete movement overhaul, a refinishing of the case and bracelet, a new crown, new crystal, and new hands. The Day-Date is accompanied by an inner and outer box, an international factory service guarantee card, and factory service paperwork.

The Rolex features a brushed yellow gold case, which is accented by a fixed gold fluted bezel. The Day-Date is mounted on its original yellow gold president bracelet, which is secured by a hidden crown clasp. The bracelet contains four removable links, and will comfortably fit a 7.15 inch wrist. The President bracelet is stamped with a “Z10” clasp code, which correlates with a production date of October 1997, meaning that the bracelet is most likely original to the watch. The Rolex features an extremely rare factory white “Howlite” granite stone dial with applied polished gold Roman numeral hour markers, polished gold hands, a magnified date window aperture at 3 o’clock, and a day window aperture at 12 o’clock. The movement used in the 18238 is the COSC certified Rolex Calibre 3155 which features approximately 48 hours of power reserve, and is covered by a two year factory service warranty.

The case has stood the test of time well and contains thick even lugs with crisp edges. The bracelet contains virtually no signs of wear from the previous owner, and contains virtually no stretch, which is seldom seen on watches that are over 20 years old. I would rate the bracelet stretch approximately 95%. The case and bracelet both present beautifully though, after receiving a light refinish at the factory service. However, what truly makes the 18238 special is its factory “Howlite” granite dial. Rolex rarely produces stone dials due to the fact that each dial has to be painstakingly crafted from a single slab of stone, and is not allowed to leave the factory unless it is truly flawless. As a result, Rolex does not produce many stone dials due to the labor and time involved in producing stone dials. Furthermore, each Howlite dial that Rolex produced is unique, due to the fact that each dial has its own unique grains and markings on it, as no two stones are exactly the same. Overall the Rolex is in mint condition, and is an excellent timepiece for any disconcerting watch collector or enthistant who wants a truly unique watch to add to their collection.
