My favourites - 16750 + 1680

Fell in love with vintage Rolexes in early 2014 when I picked up the 16750 with matte dial. Have continued the hobby and happy to report I finally managed to pair the 16750 with a couple of 1680s.

The white 1680 has a Sternkruz aftermarket crystal (waiting for a genuine to land in the post). Managed to source genuine hands from a gentleman here on the forum (thank you). The ones were aftermarket when I bought the watch.

The red 1680 is a Mark IV dial, looks like tritium service hands.

Bezel inserts and bracelets on both are later service types.

Not sure what to do hunt for now.... any suggestions? i'm also out of money

Nice pieces! I can't help you with the money but plenty of suggestions!

You got the Submariner cover so I may go for an Explorer.

The 1655 if you win the Lottery:

IMG_6317 2.JPG

16570 for a more reasonable budget

IMG_2371 2.JPG

Or a 1675/3 - 16753 for a change and have some gold in your life

IMG_8689 3.JPG

Obviously the list can go on: 5513 is must for Sub and 1803 or 18038 if you really like gold.

I hope I didn't confuse you more... good luck with your hunt!

Beautiful collection! I would say go for an Explorer II variant as someone mentioned above.

Or even an Exp or OP really to mix it up. Many of those older OPs have some really nice variations and can be had relatively affordably for Rolex. They aren’t striking at first but the elegance of them is something very nice and understated that will grow on you. A nice piece to mix it up from sport models.

Probably a new missus if you've blown all the funds on watches.

I'm joining LKJ in suggesting a WG 1803. It's an awesome piece of kit, IF you can find one with a decent President bracelet.

thanks for all the suggestions gents!

I think the 1655 and 1803 are great ideas! I had a 16570 black dial but didn't love it so sold it recently. I have a 1601 which I gave to Dad so the 1803 would be a nice addition. I'll put these on the hunt list.

On the vintage seiko suggestion - I know probably tongue in cheek but I actually love vintage seikos too. I have a fair few of them - latest acquisition is the 6106 black dial rally like this one below.

That's a great piece. Actually, I was only partly joking, since I also like vintage Seiko. My latest below:

hey thats a really nice piece Dan. I have never seen that one before! Does the centre seconds reset to 12 o clock when you hit the pusher? Really nice piece. Gorgeous dial too.... have you got some money to loan me....

edit: sorry my sh1tty internet limited the results - found it now! great historical piece. YIKES - just saw the price too!

Thanks. Yeah it was Seiko's first chronograph and was originally released to commemorate the '64 Tokyo Olympics. No running seconds, just a normal chronograph sweep hand that starts, stops, and resets with the pusher. You can accumulate minutes by aligning the bezel with the minute hand. Prices have been rising a bit, but definitely not Rolex money. ;-)

sorry I should have mentioned, the 1680 red came with its original kissing 4 insert - its a little faded with some marks so have just put it aside for now. frankly, I love the newish look so prefer the clean black bezel appearance.

The old Seikos are awesome value.

I had a couple of King Seikos a few years ago. Can't remember how I ended up with two, or what I traded them for, but they were great for a few hundred bucks.

If all else fails, the Seiko SKX 007 is THE budget mechanical watch. Now sadly disco'd but still readily available.

the good vintage Seikos have run though... I remember picking up 6105s for a mere couple of hundred bucks. Now they are close to $1K. Bargains are hard to find across the board.

We're already way off topic. Nothing wrong with a wandering thread, though.

Pretty sure I paid less than 200 bucks for my King Seikos around six years ago, and sold them for not much more. Can't find a decent example for less than a grand in today's market...

LKJ, don't tease - what did you get??
