Does the Tudor Breitling partnership help or hurt one more than the other?

I’m kinda 49/51 on this.

I like both brands about the same but I’ve heard the Breitling chronos are on par with even Rolex and the Tudor MT calibre is just above a elaboré level ETA.

Maybe Bas can shed light on the techs but I think this could be a win for Breitling.

Going for the record of most threads started in a day I see lol

I don’t think it makes a difference. Both brands are what they are at this point.

Let’s just say I’m looking for that ‘meaningful’ thread engagement some here say doesn’t exist anymore or shouldn’t be threatened.

Good point btw.

A very noble cause and a nice reprieve from “should I go grey?” And “just saw dummy watches not for sale, anyone else see this?” Posts.

Helps both out if anything. Developing movements is very costly I hear.

I like the idea, enabling each to focus its resources where most would consider each’s sweet spot. But which, if either, is actually being helped/hurt? No clue.

It is.

And I think Rolex is a bit hand tied where Tudor isn’t.

If Rolex supplied ebauches it would be a R&D and nefarious purpose nightmare I’d think.

I agree.

I thing there’s a certain strategic freedom at Tudor which Rolex couldn’t cultivate.

When you’re trying to portray your brand as exclusive, it’s probably not good to share your movements.

I've sent this question to Rolex... and they will be calling you to discuss!

Good. If they find me I’ll ask why I can’t buy a Rolex online.

Just Google it under NEWS and articles will pop.

FAKE NEWS. Googled and nothing came up when searching the two names. I saw a 2017 article about a partnership. So is chewy rehashing old news?

This would up-level both brands if it meant no more ETAs. More importantly, it would limit reliance on their biggest collective competitor’s (Omega) parent company for movements.

I agree with this. Loved the Tudor chrono when I tried it on but there was a nagging feeling that I was annoyed it had a breitling movement in it / even though I own breitlings and they’re great movements.

A loss for both sides I guess from my perspective.

I think it's great for both brands. Tudor gets a sweet chrono movement, and Breitling gets a sweet 70hr time-only movement. Win-win, imo.

My past daily wear was a Breitling chrono superocean for 4.5 years. Built like a tank and even after all these years, running cosc (no service). Just sold it recently.

When it comes to chrono dials, Breitling is the king (not to mention their dial work is very detailed with polished accents/indices).

Had a Breitling B1 for several years and loved it. It died after around 4 years and I returned it to Costco for my money back. Went to a SOH and then a B50. Breitling quartz are really cool but not at all reliable. Mine were constantly at Breitling for warranty work. The SOH was marvelous, I just got tired of it.

I really don't think that the origin of the movement is even a consideration for the Tudor or Bretling target audiences for these watches.

Considering each company's limited choices to aquire quality movements it was a smart move in my opinion. ETA no longer sells there movements to either brand. All of Tudors non in house movements like the 1926, glamor and black bay (non 58's) and all of Breitling's B17, B13 etc. Have been Sellita movements for more than 3 years.

To improve quality in the weak winding assembly Breitling does modify them to reduce failure rates, Tudor has not and my local repair center is full of them for warranty work. By Tudor creating the own 3 and 4 hand movements has greatly improved accuracy and dependability. Breitling's B01 is a mechanical marvel and I would put it up against ANY chronograph movement.

So Tudor using the B01 and Breitling using Tudors 3 hand movements is a win win for both companies. I personally hope to see either Breitling using the Tudor movements in all there 3 hand movements or develop there own. Tudor may do the same on there chronograph movements. Time will tell. Each manufacturer being as independent as possible is the only way to avoid broken relationships in the future and will make each brand stronger.

Very informative! Most Breitlings just do not appeal to me, however I do believe they are great watches. Wasn't sure how I felt about the partnership, but if what you say is true (no reason not to believe it!) the fact that each brand is sharing the best of what they have to help each other then I'm on board.

Would Like to see more Tudor in house movements though! Sadly it is a very complicated process.

Not all Breitling chronos has their in-house movement. Breitling B01 movement is said to even better than Daytona and the reason is simple. It was made in modern era and had Daytona in reference. Rolex chrono movement was made in 1992 whereas Breitling B01 was made just in 2009 and many say it is better than the old Rolex movement. It performs great and has huge number of watches using B01. The cheaper Breitling chronos still use ETA chronograph movement.. only the expensive ones use B01.

It is more like 70-30 in favor of Tudor coz Tudor is not doing anything great in giving their movement to Breitling as it's giving to many companies but Breitling giving B01 which is a top grade movement to Tudor in exchange is a bummer. Very hard to made chronograph movement for any watch company and that should have been exclusive.

Absolutely, many watch maker's say even better. But may have some serious competition from Omega's 9900 series.

Well even Rolex used ebauche movements for many years from ETA Valjoux and Zenith and now very much sort after. And models like the vintage ETA Valjoux powered chronographs, and Moonphase now fetch crazy money.

There were ahead of their time as supplier for sure. But today I doubt they’d supply anyone. Tudor, definitely. Maybe even beyond Breitling.
