When to talk to AD for my 2nd watch?

Do you usually tell your AD your interest soon after you get your 1st Rolex?

Since the wait is going to be horrible, I was going to show my interest in other model soon after I pick up my 1st watch.

How or when do you guys normally approach AD for your second or subsequent watches?

During most of my interactions with other humans, I actually speak to them, tell them what I’m thinking. It comes in handy at restaurants, doctor’s offices, and, on occasion, in the confessional.

Approach them upwind so they can't smell you coming.

Immediately. As you put back your sized watch in its box, say “ok so next one is like is XYZ”.
Then come back without the watch you just bought a few days after and ask them about “XYZ”.

I walk in to to an AD and ask to buy a watch, kind of like shoes or lunch

definitely tell the AD about your second rolex purchase BEFORE you make your first rolex purchase... because AD games.

Don’t. At least not if your first is the more desirable of the two. Otherwise you may find your second choice arriving well ahead Of your first.

Earlier this year as we were sitting at the Rolex table in the AD's store picking up my first (and only) Rolex, he asked which one we wanted to get next. So, my advice would be to bring it up when you are there to pick up your first one.

How about you get your first Rolex first

Enjoy it. See if you even like Rolex

Then decide on your your next Rolex.

Then ask the AD for your next one :)

No standard answer.
Too many variables here that are left out to even give proper advice. If you want a legitimate “what would you do if in my shoes” then probably best to include a lot more info in the question.

You should’ve gave them your demands (list of watches) first time you met them, haha.

I would ask for my next one as I'm paying for the first one. No time like the present.

I was talking to my local AD about my first purchase from them in May/June of 2019. It only took about 6 weeks for my GMT II CHNR (Rootbeer) to come in. It must have been a little less than a year later - probably around Jan/Feb of 2020 - I put my request in for the GMT II BLNR (Batman). It was about March of 2020 when everything shut down. They let me know early April that they had one available but I had to wire them the money and pick the watch up at the shipping/receiving door as the store was still closed. I picked it up pre-paid. So it was probably about 6 months after getting my first Rolex from this AD that I put in my request for the second. I get the sense things have changed drastically since then as when I now go into the store they have no Rolex in the case. I also think I received my second Rolex much quicker than normal given the pandemic shutdown.

I don't wear a watch to my AD if I'm expecting to walk out with a new one.
