Just got the call from my AD

Got the call for an Air-king that I’ve been on the list for since 2020. I actually almost forgot I was still on the list for it.

I have two other Rolexes from this AD going back to 2018. I still have both and they are my only Rolexes at the moment.

I haven’t been on these forums too much recently, but have there been anymore rumors or insights into the possible discontinuation of the Air-king? A buddy of mine said it could be discontinued as soon as this month….

I’m picking it up tomorrow and will post pics. Also, was wondering, how soon is too soon to ask for another watch? When picking it up, would it be OK to ask for a GMT Master? Or should I wait a few months and then ask… just wondering if there is a consensus on that as it relates to repeat purchasers and follow on requests.

Thanks!

I don’t think Rolex will drop the Air-King (just my guess) as it’s something a bit different for them to offer.

I’d simply drop into conversation your wish to buy the GMT Master when you purchase your Air-King.

Congratulations in advance.

Congrats. Just ask for what you want, when you want. Never understood this standing on ceremony with watch salespeople.

"Thanks for getting me this watch. I love it. Now I want a GMT. Can you make it happen for me? I'm ready as soon as you can get it. Thanks."

See. Easy.

If they don’t drop it they will likely put the new movement in it right? Wonder what other changes they might make to it.

Your "buddy" knows squat.
Because neither does anyone else besides Rolex, and they do not disseminate their plans.

Just got the call from my AD

I still struggle why this beauty of a reference ad to why it is called Air King. Usually all SS Rolex has a function related to the sports or utility they are designed for. The GMT is a pilot watch with two time zones reading capability. The air King has no gmt function so why it’s Air or pilots related?!

I think it was developed in a time when the pilot was often the navigator, and plotting a course typically meant precise timing with adjustments. Pilots watches are often very easy to read, with minutes prominently displayed on the dial. Just my two cents.

Mmmm that makes sense, I also thought about the fabulous readability of the dial. With a dial line the one on the Daytona, a pilot from the last wound end up crashing or getting lost :-)
