Rolex 1019 Milgauss Experts
I'm thinking of adding a 1019 Milgauss as my second 4-digit Rolex to the collection.
It seems the reference is way less in focus of collectors than other models from this period. However, this is also reflected in the amount of research available. There seems to be way less comprehensive and structured information on dial variants, etc. out there compared to 1675, 1655, etc. Hence, I'm asking the experts in this forum whether there is a good summary available and how you would assess the watch I'm currently considering (pls also see pictures). Some more details on the specific watch: - 60xx series, sold in 1981 - 78360 bracelet with 580 endlinks and VD as clasp code - Seller claims everything period correct and untouched except for the glass which was changed some years ago As I understand, there are many variants of the dial, differing in lume plots, lume in batons, shape of the hands and display of second splits. I was wondering if the watch appears fully period correct? Have the hands been relumed? Any other red flags? Thanks in advance Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Did you get a chance to open it to see that the extra shield covering the rotor is present ?

Small “Rolex” I like it. Sorry I can’t help with anything else. Interested in what others’d say too.

Hands appear relumed. Look how green they are compared to the tritium at the hour markers, which, by the way, are missing at five and six o'clock.

Have a look at the lugs. Apparently the case has been polished, its normal for old watches. Dont really like the springbars poking thru the lug holes like that. Overpolished or wrong springbars?
Its clear the polishing has affected the lug holes since one can see some craters around the holes. Just a pic for comp….

The hands are certainly re-lumed, but can easily be re-re-lumed so that they're not green. The case is polished, but not overly so.
The 1019 is an absolute charmer. The vertical brushing on the dial makes it appear silver, white, grey or brownish depending on the lighting and the angle of view. You have to see one in person to really appreciate it. Photos don't do justice. Here's my big Rolex logo variant (1979) from Jacek for comparison. The outer second track is quite different from the small Rolex logo variant, if you're nerdy enough to look. |

Thanks for all the input so far.
Is it 100% relumed? I’ve seen a couple of other Milgauss from the same period with similarly looking hands (which of course can also mean they have been relumed too). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
