suggestions for kid's watch?

Hi all. I'm a seldom-poster but longtime creeper. Like all of us, I've got a real passion for watches. I'd like to get my 10 yr old daughter her 2nd watch for Christmas. She's progressed from a Flik Flak watch to a "grown up" Swatch watch and she adores it. She's very responsible and so don't mind indulging as I think, fingers crossed, she may get bitten by the watch bug. So I wondered what suggestions you all may have... I'm thinking sub-$300 but am flexible. Thanks everyone.

in the same boat with my 13 year old daughter, she wants a Vivien Westwood which I suspect I will buy her or a M Koirs but to be honest I think its just money down the drain in a years time !

I picked up a Shinola sea creature for my 14 YO for Christmas. Pretty cool piece and story. Love what they’re doing and my AD carries them so got a nice 30% discount making it a no brainer.

G/Baby Shock. I bought one for my daughter’s 12th birthday and it never comes off. She chose exactly what she wanted.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check out the Shinola and Baby G-Shock options.

Last night I was looking at the Timex Marlin automatic options. They have display casebacks which I think would be cool for a kid, or anyone really.

And I if I do go the DD route, I think she'd prefer rose gold ;)

Take a look at Parchi. It's a watch brand specifically made for kids by an ex-Hodinkee employee.

Parchi is clearly attempting to be a Flik Flak competitor but they missed that the whole point of a first watch is to learn how to tell the time - why every single FF has the minutes as well as the hours printed clearly on the dial.

Massive, massive fail.

Seiko makes various kids watches. Some with Pokémon characters. There are also a variety of other Swatch watches that can mark the beginning of a collection.

Seiko would be one of the best, don’t go with fashion watches.

got our 12yr old a G-Shock GWM5610-1 and I don't think he's taken it off in 2yrs except to shower. Looks like a plain square, but the Multi-Band 6 and Tough Solar tech appeal to his tech nerd side. Especially when time changes and his watch automatically adjusts. Also got a set of nato adapters for the case, so that he can swap the strap out to his liking.

Parchie has the hours stamped on the bezel and minutes on the dial. I think they look good

My bad. Didn’t see them as they’re very very small.

Buy whatever would be available at a good quality / low price point from your AD that can supply hard to get models that you really want.

As someone suggested, I'm steering clear of any fashion brand watches. Cool watch brand history, cool watch story, cool functions, cool look... I'd like my 10 yo daughter to one day be a 20 yo and reflect on the cool watches from her cool dad. I'm also avoiding anything too cuties as my 10 yo is a rather mature. So I'm trying to surf the fun/not-boring/not-too-little-kid line... yeah, wish me luck ;)

And funny enough, I was thinking of a vintage Hamilton. Her 10 yo twin brother rocks my dad's 1960s Hamilton Estoril automatic. It's a little too small for my wrist but suits him perfectly. Unfortunately it loses minutes throughout the day. So going forward with them, I'm leery of anything too old from a reliability standpoint. I don't want them to be frustrated with their watch. When he's at school he wears his Flik Flak. He calls his Hamilton is his "weekend watch"... gosh, I really am a proud dad... sniff, sniff.

Thanks for the input. So far I'm looking at Seiko 5s, the Timex Marlin (display caseback) and G-shocks. I think Parchies look a little too cuties for her.

BTW. My 10 yo son has already been bitten by the watch bug.... as is evident by the MB&F poster in his room.

I like the idea of a Parchie. If it were for a boy, I'd suggest a Seiko 5.
