Another 'would you' thread...

Hi All,

I never thought I would get into this idea of trading and exchanging, but could do with some rational thought (as opposed to my emotive thinking). My main collection consists of:

BLNR (jubilee)
DJ41 ('Wimbledon' dial fluted & jubilee)
Explorer 39mm
Speedie
Seamaster 300m
Tudor BB58 Blue

I've recently come across a 2013 116619LB (box, papers and good condition) for £33k. I'm toying with the idea of chopping in the BLNR, DJ and Tudor BB58 to make this happen.

My thought has always been to keep more in the collection for variety, but I would have to make some concessions in order to finance my entry into the precious metals arena... Am I being mad for even considering this?

I'd love to hear from those with the 116619LB about how wearable it truly is, and pics always welcome

You have a great collection. I wouldn’t purge 3 for 1.

I once thought about moving my Sub ND and/or DSSD JC2. Months later, I'm glad I never parted with them. Add to your collection, don't sell off your pieces unless you really need to for financial reasons.

This has always been my thoughts too, must have been the desire getting the better of me!

I sold my AP diver plus cash for my 116619, zero regrets. It's an awesome piece IMO. I couldn't get it out of my head and had to have it...

Are you having to add cash as well?

If it were three SS for one SS, I’d say no. But for the 116619LB, I’d strongly consider it. Question is, how comfortable are you wearing PM? Or would you be so obsessed wihh th it that you keep it tucked away in a drawer to never actually enjoy it?

Thanks all. I have always stood by the variety point, and also to add pieces rather than trade in.

A absolute NO WAY. I would NEVER pay over retail for a watch no matter how much I wanted it. Not in a million years. It's just a watch and over priced at that.

Am I missing something? If it's the BLNR, DJ and Tudor 58 I'd do that in a heartbeat for a Smurf, assuming condition is comparable.

Heck the Tudor isnt a big deal, a BLNR and DJ which you can buy again. Just two SS for Smurf easy call. I would rather you keep the Tudor 58 blue and add little cash so you have a upscale and tool beater blue watch combo.

Just my opinion if I were in your shoes and had that collection. I'd get rid of the Explorer and everything below, consolidate to 3 watches, black dial smurf for me though.

The reason I love these forums is down to our individual approach - I appreciate your opinion... but the Explorer is the one watch I couldn't ever let go due to sentimental reasons

I do like the new black dial 'Smurf' but there's something about the original that ticks to box for me.

Interesting, my original thought was that the Tudor 58B is practically the same style watch and so would be the first on the chopping block!

I would keep BLNR and Datejust, sell the rest and save more money, goes on the waitlist at the boutique near you for WG Sub.

I wouldn't chop in a GMT for a Sub Date but then again, I don't like the BLNR enough to own one, and I love the 116619LB.

I've met the 11 series Smurf. Oddly enough it's the only 11 series Sub I ever saw on display at my AD. It is stunning. The only thing that stopped me was the price. I can't get my head around paying that much for a watch no matter how good it looks.

Having said that, the ridiculously overblown asking prices of some of the watches in my collection have made me cogitate on the subjective merits and pitfalls of consolidation for a PM on more than one occasion this year. I guess it's what the market does for logic at a time like this.

One day WG is going to be worth a lot more than hyped SS and that Smurf is just wonderful, and now discontinued. The 12 looks bland in comparison although WG has a depth of lustre and a presence that you can't mistake for SS.

Is it a straight swap? 3 watches for 1?

For the blue smurf....I probably would do it. Just my opinion. You still have a nice explorer and other watches as your dailies and your Smurf when you want to turn things up a notch.
