Yacht-Master II: Chrono stops at 8 minutes. Help

Good evening,

I got my YMII last month new from a dealer. Before I take it back in I thought I would ask the community on here for any feedback on a similar issue. When I rotate the bezel counterclockwise until it clicks and depress the lower pusher to allow setting the chrono hand, the minute hand clicks up 1 though 8 and then flicks to around the 5pm position (below zero on the chrono). It will not click up to the 10 minute mark. Anyone experience something similar?

Thanks!

And if you leave the watch running after setting the countdown timer and returning the command bezel back to its normal position does it return to zero after a few minutes? Or does it stay pointed towards the chrono? The small countdown hand should jump between zero and 10 when setting and then move in 1 minute increments each time you press the pusher. If it isn’t jumping from zero to 10, instead sticking in the middle, try what I wrote above, essentially letting it count down the time until it returns to zero and try setting again another 10 minutes countdown. Do that a few times. It may just be that the jump between zero and 10 is sticking and using the countdown a few times might free the hand so that it jumps across as it should.

@inadeje Thanks for the response. So the thing is that the countdown timer hand counts down PAST the zero position. When I attempt to set the chrono timer to say 10, the maximum it will go up to is 8 before flying back to the below-zero position.

I hope that makes sense?

Hi Sean. From what you are describing the countdown timer mechanism functions as intended (good) but the physical hand has somehow become misaligned on its axis (not serious). However, this will require that RSC open up the watch to realign the hand. It may also be that the hands axis is out of tolerance to the axis which would mean they’ll probably have to fit a new hand.

From the sounds of things this is a new watch under warranty? When it’s convenient send it in for warranty repair.

Exactly right. I am taking it back to Ben Bridge here in Seattle where I bought it a month ago. I am a little surprised that a mechanism of this caliber is misaligned (no knocks or drops have been sustained).

Thanks for the feedback. Appreciate it.

Yes, it’s clearly a bummer for you, but sadly these are mechanical and things can happen as you’re witnessing. However, as I tried to allude, the mechanism itself appears to function, which is a sigh of relief. The simple misaligned hand isn’t a huge issue in the grandeur scheme of things. Either way, it still doesn’t resolve your evident upset, but it may at least provide a morsel of solace that the remedy won’t require a new movement nor a full disassembly of the same.

Enjoy the holidays

Thanks @inadeje. I took it in and they confirmed that the timer hand has indeed fallen out of alignment. They need to send in to Rolex to remedy so The Beast will be gone for a number of weeks. Happy I have my GMII handy as a back up.

Happy holidays!
