Chicago AD

I'm new to the game and wanted to build a relationship with an AD. I know it would be easier to go the gray route but I want this to be a lifelong passion for me. I do plan on purchasing multiple pieces and paying gray will decrease the number of pieces I can obtain. Do ya have any recommendations of a reputable AD in the Chicago area to build a relationship with?

Walk in and hope for the best, and expect the worst. You’re 5 years too late in some respects, which is sad. Best of luck.

Yeah lots of people in line ahead of you. Nothing wrong with walking into Razny’s, CD Peacock, etc. but it will be very difficult. Maybe buying one of their pre-owned could help but I don’t know if it makes a difference. Someone like Howard Frum usually has a great selection of pre-owned Rolexes at gray prices but may be willing to deal for multiple sales.

I know a number of people in Chicagoland who have opted to build an AD relationship out of state. There’s just too much money around to attract an AD. Easier to be a slightly larger fish in a smaller pond.

Is there any Rolex boutique in your area? I think the boutique is better than authorized dealers. All Rolex boutiques sell only Rolex timepieces, no jewelry so you don't have to worry about buying something else to start a relationship other than Rolex.

DateJust and some sport models can be obtainable with some wait time.

I would recommend CD Peacock in Skokie. Ryan is a pleasure to work with.

Whichever friend/boss who is a VVIP that can introduce you is their AD is the AD you should build a relationship with.

I don't know dynamics in Chicago, but I can't imagine they are any better than the other big cities like London/NY/Shanghai, etc.

My friend had a relationship with a Chicago AD, yet they were caught working with grey dealers. Personally, i'd avoid Chicago and find another AD somewhere else as others have mentioned.

1. Get out a map.
2. Follow I90 and I94 ~150mi north/northwest.
3. Mark all of the ADs a reasonable distance off the freeway.
4. Take an hour to call/day to visit.

Between the suburbs and southern WI, there are plenty of them to try. That said, the suggestion of trying the boutique is a good one, as there isn't other jewelry to try and sell you.

You can try, but you’re very late to the party

Welcome to the game, unfortunately Chicago is near impossible to even get on a list much less an actual watch. My AD in the suburbs said he currently has 900 people on lists for various models. You’re best off trying Indiana, like Valparaiso or Wisconsin, as far north as Green Bay. Best of luck!

So far Ryan at CD Peacock in Skokie has been my best ad visit. He is knowledgeable and gracious with his time. It’s the AD experience I want but it’s pretty clear without being a regular customer odds are slim for what I’m after.

Raznys basically showed me the door. I will not return.

James and sons is the only AD I have history with in Chicago - but it was a long time ago so not much hope there either. I kind of doubt they will get many watches this year now that they have to deal out of Orland Park. They have always been good though.

I’ll be trying Milwaukee and Indy when there for work over the next few months.
