Arnold & Son thoughts

I recently had a chance to stop at an AD to look at their line of watches. Two models in particular I was curious about are the Perpetual Moon and DSTB.

The perpetual moon was in rose good with a blue strap. I thought the watch had great proportionality and the fit and finish were very good to excellent. One issue I walked away with the back of the movement. For watches in similar range I thought they had room for improvement in terms of finish relative to watches in the same price range. The highlights for me was the massive moon phase complication and the obsidian dial. I walked away with a very positive impression of this watch and I would consider adding it to my collection.

The other watch I looked at is the DSTB in SS and blue dial. The watch dial reminded me of the MB&F LM blue dial. I loved the exposed mechanical components for the second hand. Technically I thought the movement was very impressive. Biggest draw back for me was the case weight. The watch felt too light.

I walked away from the visit thinking this brand had some great elements. I know that one of the biggest draw backs that people point to with this brand is the mixed history of ownership. My question is have any of you on this form handled or own one of their watches? I am curious as to what your thoughts are. Any insight into long term ownership would be great.

Have been looking at a nebula and almost got it, but it was a bit hard to read.
The finishing is pretty good imo

I liked the ones I checked out. More visually interesting than other brands. Obviously secondhand prices can find good deals. Some are pretty generously sized, thought the world timer looked awesome in photos but proportions didn't seem right in person on my wrist

I haven't bought an A&S but I like what they are doing. I reached out to them through the web contact form with a few questions about customization and the CEO emailed me back. Pretty freaking awesome in this market.

I do have an update. I did purchase a brand new A&S UTTE in Palladium. I am planning to do a more in depth write-up with better pictures. All I can say the watch has exceeded even my loftiest expectations. I took it to my local watch repair shop here in Houston where I nerd out about watches with fellow enthusiast and I thought that I was never going to get the watch back. Below are some of the highlights for me are:

1. Case and buckle and made with Palladium. For perspective - all the platinum that has been mined in the world would fit in typical house. All the Palladium mined in the world will fit in a living room.

2. The tourbillion acting as a second hand is absolutely a joy for me to watch.

3. Fit and finish is absolutely incredible. I can confidently say that this watch will be in my permanent collection

I highly recommend going to an AD if you have one close to where you live. My original post I tried to cover my impression of the A&S watches that I handled. After I get my Ressence Type 5 I will be looking at adding an A&S DSTB. That movement and dial that comes with the SS case was hypnotic.

I believed they are owned by Citizen group. Another Indy brand that has the right to the name alone but not the history of it.

My newest acquisition. My reasons are much the same as Spartan2009's:
  1. high quality in-house movement with very high fit and finish;
  2. unusual complication that is rare and looks fantastic;
  3. tourbillon is mesmerizing;
  4. niche high-end manufacture backed by a powerhouse owner (Citizen) that produces a very limited number of watches; and
  5. under-the-radar brand and watch, that watch collectors will appreciate.
