What’s your favorite solid gold 36mm? 118238 vs 116238

I recently became a “36mm guy”. I own a 36mm explorer and love it.

Just wondering what would be your recommendation for a 36mm solid gold Rolex. (no diamonds, mop, or crazy dials)

I’m considering a modern 36mm daydate 118238 or a solid gold datejust 116238. If you own one or the other (or both) I’d be interested to hear your thoughts.

Thanks.

Don’t own any of them but that full gold DJ is sweet. I would guess that is one of the least sold pm Rolexes, which makes it even better in my book :)

I don't own either, but if I was going to go all the way, I'd go ALL THE WAY. DD for the win!

I would probably go with the DJ, you don't see too many of those out in the wild.

Tough call. DD is definitely the "icon" piece - SkyD or no SkyD, I'll always consider it the Rolex flagship piece.

However, I like the DJ's rarity, not too many of those and so few 36mm gold Jubilees.

All that said, I'd prefer either watch with a non-gold dial. Don't love the monochromatic look, especially in gold. Can either be had with white?

I like the DD better but assuming that it's considerably cheaper I would go with the DJ.

Day date all the way for me. The iteration of the DJ shown has the bloated lugs, so it’s a no-go. Look at how much better the taper on the lugs of the DD is. Plus the day date is the icon YG watch, period.

Hi guys, first post on this forum.

My choise would definitely be YG Day Date 36mm, but would also consider it with diamonds.

Let me explain.
Last Saturday, at my nearest AD was only one men’s Rolex available:

Day Date YG 36mm champagne with diamonds.

I would have liked it to be with sticks but It made me so deep impression I decided to pull the trigger this Monday. It is my first Rolex.

Yesterday I visited again the AD and now there was to my surprice the same model available with sticks. First I was little dissapointed the AD did not mention of this coming available. But in few minutes I understood how much more lively and fresh my watch looks at the distance of someone standing near you.

I loved the watch with sticks also and would say that before choosing, it would be good to have possibilty to compare these models (diamonds/sticks) side by side (which is allmost impossible today, I know).

President bracelet makes the difference. I do however love the DJ in all gold, unique and not something you see often.

I have the 36 and 40 with diamond markers and it's just so much better than sticks.
It'll grow on you!
