Official Rolex AD wrist measuring tape

I had been guessing my wrist size and while at the AD I asked to have my wrist measured. My wrist was 6.75 inches and did not take a photo while there. Here’s one I found online.

You can take a piece of string and wrap it around your wrist and then measure the length of the string.

and then spend ages searching online forums finding out which size Oysterflex will fit you........

Not to mention, when you get into the "border" areas, it can be tricky. For me, the oyster flex fits best when it doesn't slide around, yet those fins don't dig into the wrist, either. And that fit sometimes is found on either side of the border line between letters.

Operator error can also come into play as well.

Measuring where you wear the watch on your wrist is the most important

I'd skip string as it will sink into skin (and/or fat). Either ask your wife for her sewing tape or find something closer to the width of a watch strap...even a folded over sheet of paper a few plys thick, wrap it around where you wear a watch, mark the end and then measure with a ruler.

Then write the number down on a post it note and throw the note in the garbage.

A Rolex AD measured my wrist for me. I guessed 7.5 inches and he said I was spot on but he measured quite tight and closer to the hand than I wear watches. So I'd say my wrist size is a thick 7.5 inches. For example the OP41 bracelet is supposed to fit a 7.5 inch wrist but I found it to be a little snug. I lost a little weight and bracelet loosened up a bit on me and it's perfect now.

I'm a little surprised they don't just include a 7.75 inch bracelet with each watch and just be generous with the links.

Yeah, I was going to mention this. Aren’t they a common household item? I have one in my house and have no idea where it even came from. It might be over 50 years old for all I know…Maybe it came from either my parents house or my wife’s parents. Not really sure…I’m pretty sure we never bought it.

The good thing about this, there is some flex around the wrist.

I think they introduced this tape with the OF straps, to pinpoint the R/L strap codes (D,E,F,G,H) for your wrist. That's why the 'tape' also has a 'head' on it. You wear it like a watch.

Correct. They used one of these for sizing my OF. Fortunately mine has a glidelock clasp as well…hopefully all OF come with GL in the future-to me it’s a must for fit/comfort…

There are aftermarket versions of it, have one that bought at Esslinger which think its Bergeon.
