Question about accepting in demand piece…..for example 116500 Daytona…

Just some thoughts and curiosity. I recently acquired a 116500 black dial from my AD. Do you think this hurts my short term potential for being allocated say a different in demand piece or say a precious metal Daytona. From the discussions I’ve had and the way I understand it I think the answer is yes. I’m not saying by passing I would have received the Mayer or Meteorite, but it seems like accepting the black dial I won’t have a chance at another Daytona in the near distant future. But on the contrary it’s not like you could pass on it either. I’m not trying to flip, so I guess you could say you’d rather wait for “insert specific model”, but not sure that’s the right play either way. I am really enjoying the watch, just makes me want a full gold one as well if and when the opportunity arises.

I’ll be the first of many to say that only your AD can answer this question
Just have a conversation with them

Stop speculating and just ask your AD.

For my ad yes. I can’t get another Daytona for ten months because I took a ss black. For me though I like how they try their best to share the watches around. Seems fair.

Every ad is different though and will have different rules. You should ask your ad not us.

That's why AD always say, choose the model you want, instead of the 'hot' model. But you are very lucky to have black SS Daytona.

I have a great relationship with my AD but even so, they say no to two Daytonas a year. I’m waiting for my meteorite Daytona so I will pass on all other Daytonas from that AD. If it’s end of the year and the meteorite isn’t here then I will proceed with a stainless or another gold one.

Presumably you wanted it and were waiting for it. If so, then job done. Good result and congratulations.

The next one will be along when it's along. How soon you get it will depend on the AD. They are the best people to discuss it with. Anyone else can only speculate.

My AD, in so far as I have discussed it with them, try to be equable with how they distribute watches among the existing loyal customer base, as well as cultivating new customers. But I don't suppose there is one universal rule for all at my AD or any other. The world and the people in it don't work that way.

You did well accepting the 116500. Refusing it would have not guaranteed you getting another hot model instead.

One on the wrist is worth 10 on the allocation list. You got a great watch and should be on the list for another at some point in the future. Have a discussion with your AD so you can both understand the timing expectations of your next watch. Congratulations.

Nice acquisition. Enjoy the watch. Buy something for the wife and then have a game plan with your AD. You look greedy or you ask for something immediately but express genuine interest and you never know. Good luck!!

If you wanted the 116500 then I’m not sure why it really matters if it makes it more difficult to get another hot watch. It’s hard enough to get that watch without throwing additional conditions at your AD. Honestly they’d probably rather sell watches to a buyer who’s thankful to get a Daytona and just doesn’t need all this reassurance.

Yes, accepting a ss daytona probably hurts your short term potential for a PM daytona. Generally speaking.

Yes, take the bird in hand when offered a Daytona….later on if you don’t get what you exactly want in your timeframe, you at least now have something to trade with. Also, this will go into your spend history hence increase your likelihood of being offered pieces in general.

Make no mistake, I have both black and white ceramic Daytona…both are equally great in my mind.

What about just enjoying and wearing the newly acquired Daytona instead of already looking towards the next?

You just got an awesome and very hard to obtain watch for retail. My suggestion is to resist thinking about your next watch and take a step back to enjoy your new Daytona.

If your AD is offering you a Daytona, they almost certainly consider you to be a valued customer and, more than likely, they envision a long-term business relationship with you. IMHO, it makes much more sense to think about things in the long-term rather than the short-term.

Do you really need something else in the short term having just gotten a Daytona?

I’ve been wearing it and enjoying it everyday so far!! The whole thread was saying I’d love a precious metal one in the near future. My AD knows this and we have discussed this before. I’m not pushy, so I will just keeping enjoying this one and wait til the next one might be offered. Hopefully they don’t discontinue the ones I want this year so I have a chance in the next couple years.

The more you buy the better the pieces you will be offered. The AD's favor their best clients
