My AD Story

For the last year or so I've been dropping in on the only AD near where I live and have been talking to the same SA. A few months ago he said that he thought he could get me a Kermit (Cermit?) in about a year. From what I saw on YouTube, getting one of these watches from an AD seemed nearly impossible, so I didn't know how seriously to take him. Then a few weeks ago he texted me and said, "Don't be mad, but I'm taking a new job." And with that I realized my Kermit dreams were over.

I dropped in on the store (it's about an hour from where I live) a few days later just to say goodbye to the SA (he's a good kid). As he and I were chatting he told me he felt bad because he knew that I would basically be forgotten at worst and at the end of any of the other SA's list at best. I asked him who he was going to hand me off to and he said that he'd like my new SA to be the manager. He called the manager over and introduced us. He told the manager that I'd been waiting for a Kermit for a while and that he'd like him to put me on his list. The manager was nice and said OK and then walked away. The SA and I chatted for a bit longer and then right before I was to leave the manager came back with a Kermit and said, "'Why don't you just take this home today."

I was blown away. So was the SA. He told me later that he had been under the impression that that watch was destined to spend some time as an "exhibit only" watch in the case and was then going to the owner's friend.

This happened just a couple weeks ago and since then I've made a relationship with the manager. He's a really nice guy and it makes me happy that the only AD within 4 hours of my home is an honest dealer who looks to take care of customers.

Great to hear stories like this, 99% of the AD’s do their best.

Looking at the price increases in the grey market, my view is ADs are selling to people that won’t sell and want to wear the watch. Less watches hit the grey dealers, the more the prices go up…. My 2c

Maybe some ADs. My AD, to the best of my knowledge, does everything they reasonably can to avoid feeding flippers. There are bound to be VIPs and VVIPs who increase the wait lists for the more modest spenders, but that's not flipping and is to be expected. I don't think there is an overall shift in AD behaviour because there are too many variables, but any movement is welcome.

Now there’s a smart manager! Just made a lifelong customer. There should be more stories like this.
Congrats on a great watch OP.

You drove two hours just to say goodbye to an SA? Wow, that's dedication to the cause!

Congrats on the watch, nice pics also.

Yhea that’s what the manager probably thought and said this guy gets A for effort and K for Kermit.

Props to the OP, he must have the patience of a saint to get two pics of the watch at the exact "Rolex display time".
