Why Rolex stay away from moon-phase?

The only modern Rolex you can get from AD that I know to have a moonphase is Cellini.

There is nothing more by Rolex have this complication, while many competitors from Holy Trinity to Omega, JLC... have their "Moonphase" line

Why do you think Rolex stay-away from that complication ? Is it useless or not attractive ???

Rolex primarily makes professional models. What utility does a moon phase have in that regard?

Only use case I can think of is to time the tide. For fishing maybe?

It’s a simple, boring, useless complication.

A moon phase complication is pretty much useless for dress watches too.

I’m not sure I’d ever want a watch with a moon phase complication, and this comes from someone that is a huge fan of NASA, SpaceX, astrophysics, science fiction, etc.

However, with all that said, a moon phase DayDate or Datejust might actually be pretty cool. Depending on how it’s implemented, they could change my mind.

I enjoy watch complications and appreciate their heritage. It’s much easier to mass produce uncomplicated timepieces. I honestly like both.

I would be interested in a modern version of it…
But then I’d have to beg an AD to sell me one.

I don't know...I am pretty sure that most of the werewolves around Europe depend quite a bit on the Moon-phase part of a watch.

Yes Cellini produce a modern moonphase but decades ago Rolex moonphase watches were from the late 1940s early 1950s but again not a Rolex made movement just like many of the most expensive Rolex today. The Rolex moon-phase used a ebauche movement from Lemania or ETA, the Cal 780 Ref 8171 ref 6062 S.Steel they made them in gold and SS,but both worth a lot more today Now in the late 1940s early 1950s the Ref 8171 6062 was Rolex flagship models, but were very very very poor sellers, because mainly the high price even then. Then you could get watches with exactly the same complications, with the same movement but under a different brand but same ebauche as Rolex used but they were quite a bit cheaper. Now the Rolex moon-phase was made in very small numbers, only around 350 in yellow gold with snap backs, only 50 in pink gold, and very few in SS,and its the S,Steel that's the most expensive retail today in the vintage world a S.steel would cost around $70000- $100000 plus.

A tide complication would possibly be the best thing you could get for a dive watch so you know when the currents are going and what site / park of the dive site to drop in on.

A moon phase would be a little reminder each month when you’re back home of when the currents will be pumping out there a few days after the new/full moon

Not really Rolex's style, I say leave it with the Cellini line only

It's a nice complication but not really needed today and agree better kept to the Cellini line.

Why doesn’t my sub have a minute repeater??? I’d also love to see the Daytona have a tourby. Let’s go Rolex, get with the times!

I think the moon phase looks really nice on the JLC pieces. In fact, they have an Atmos clock that also has a moon phase, combined with really nice blued hands and blued Romans. They are very beautiful looking.

I personally don't think any of the Rolex lines would work aesthetically with a moon phase aside from the Cellini.

Because it’s a Patek on Jubilee bracelet I reckon

I’m a huge fan of moonphases. My personal opinion is that the sun needs to be made of yellow gold and the moon of platinum or white gold and when they aren’t, it bugs me. It’s such an obvious use of precious metal appliqué! :/

Mechanical watches are anachronistic nowadays and totally unnecessary as we have so many better ways to tell the time. The functions added to them, even more so.
But, the incredible workmanship and details that goes into these tiny machines is what draws us all in.
In my opinion, the moonphase is a beautiful & fascinating complication.
This is my #opinion.
