Chelsea Boutique :: what’s the deal?
Went to the Chelsea boutique in NY this past weekend and came away pretty disappointed. For those of you who may not know, it was opened in October and as the first combined Tudor / Rolex shop.
Walked in and shop was semi-empty / semi-busy (1 couple at a table, 1 couple on a couch, 2 people browsing). Plenty of staff, prob around 5-7 or so (incl 2 security guys and a bartender). Plenty of empty exhibition cases, prob 50% are empty. Stayed for 15-20min but outside of th initial "Hi, how are you" no one seemed to bother to ask if we were interested in anything, had any questions, wanted anything to drink etc. Pretty abysmal service but I guess these days they either don't have to care or just get numb to people walking in and asking for a Sub/Peofessional Model. Given that no one cared I didn't bother to ask either... Wife found the BLNR the lost compelling for me and was interested in a 36mm with a mother of pearl display but we decided not to be a nuisance. 2 GMT, 2 Subs, 1 TT Daytona and plenty of women OP around... Tudor selection was pretty sizeable but unfortunately no FCD to try on, no Ceramic BB. Given the current climate I don't know if I expected anything else but tbh if I was a new customer looking for my first special purchase, I'd be turned off the brand immediately.... I dropped into that Boutique last November and it was quite busy. All employees were with customers. The security guard told me I could sign in for the next available SA if I had any questions. I was just browsing so didn't bother.
Nothing rude or unfriendly, just busy. |

At the weekend me and my brother ride to a Triumph dealer. Me on my Harley, him on his (very pricey very limited) Norton. He was after a specific bike. We were there for 40 minutes. Looking at bikes, chatting to other customers. Just had the same “Hi” from one of the sales guys. I liked it. It was more relaxed. Think he was a bit annoyed though. Didn’t bother enquiring about the bike with them..

It’s a weird time to be a SA for Rolex. I could imagine how many flippers, watch speculators and young Instagramers asking for a “Rolly” lol
I don’t blame them for their attitude, you have to set yourself apart from the nonsense to get attention. It has become like trying to date a hot girl. Just my 2 cents Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
