This is the Roger Dubuis Sympathie S37 570. Roger Dubuis is a respected watchmaker who started his career in the late 1950s. Originally working at Longines, he moved to Patek Philippe to work on complicated watches. In the late 1980s, Roger Dubuis famously manufactured the first bi-retrograde perpetual calendar for Harry Winston.

Early works of Roger Dubuis are often heralded by collectors as they contained the DNA of the man himself. The two distinctive lines defined the neo-vintage golden era of the brand were the Sympathie, an angular, unique case shape with elongated lugs and the Hommage, an adage to the watchmakers of the past. These were produced during a period when Roger Dubuis had full creative control and execution of his watches.

This example is a Sympathie S37, which signifies the charm and innovation of Roger Dubuis himself. It runs on the RD57 movement an as the name suggests, is 37mm in diameter. The Sympathie is very unique in its shape, best described as a square-shaped watch with curves. The dials of the Sympathies also differ with variants but are very well thought out and unmistakeably Roger Dubuis.

It’s also important to note that early Roger Dubuis were only produced in quantities of 28, hence rendering each piece extremely limited. Looking at the Sympathie, it can’t help but to remind one of the creativity and singularity of the maker and what could have been if he was able to carry on channeling his vision on the brand that carries his name.

Condition

This Roger Dubuis Sympathie S37 is in excellent pre-owned condition. The case has very minor signs of prior wear, with light hairlines on the bezel and crown. Both front and back crystals have no flaws and the dial is in perfect condition. The watch also retains its original strap and buckle as well as the original box and papers. It has also just gone through a full service overhaul by the manufacturer with a 24-month service warranty. The watch is in full working order.
