Differing fonts for "ROLEX" used on dials

Hey all! Barely getting caught up with work.

Have you guys noticed that thet seem to use different fonts in the ROLEX logo on the dials? I knew about the flat versus round "S"s on subs, but not ROLEX logo itself.

For instance, my Sub has very pronounced visible horizontal lines on the tips of the "X". The GMT barely has any of those, if at all! The "R"s also look different, the one on the GMT looks narrower and has the right foot coming out a little more to the left. There also appears to be more space between O and L on the Sub, etc.

They are both D series, and both purchased at AD's, so I HOPE one isn't a fake LOL.

Is this normal, anyone else have the "tipless X's"? Oh, and if anyone has pics can they please post

I have some good watch shopping from last weekend that I'll have to post when I get more time. Saw a lot of vintage stuff! Hope everyone's doing good this week.

Yep, pretty normal. Rolex dials have several different fonts. Rolex got their dials from several sources. Look at the difference in the "o" in Rolex between my GMT and Sub.

It really gets crazy in vintage. The 1680 has at least two different fonts. Some models can have 5 to 6 variations. Makes it interesting LOL!

Cool Mike, thanks for the pics! Mine is way more drastic though, it's like there are _no_ little horizontal ends on the "X" The "R" doesn't really have little serif lines out to the left of it either.

I'll have to try to take a closeup pic, but I don't have a macro lense. It has to be the font though, as some of the other writing is TEEEEEENY. But I guess it depends how they actually put the words on there, perhaps it's an old worn-out stamper

The E in Rolex on my 85 GMT has longer horizontal bars than the E on my 06 SD.

I can't get a decent pic, have to get a new camera! The Canon Sureshot macro won't let me get close enough

Ok, I managed to get some half-way decent close-ups.

The first two pics are of my Sub & GMT.

The 3rd pic is the ONLY other GMT I found on-line with the same looking font! I didn't see any other Rolexes with that same font in the logo (subs, etc).

What gives, do I have a knock-off or a valuable rare dial or something?

There are very very faint small serifs on the font, but the camera can't even pick them up, and you'd have to look really hard with the naked eye to see them.

Note how radically different the "R"s are!

Hey Mike, almost LOL Your "X" has a lot more serif going on than mine, I think your "R" does too. crap, maybe they sold me a knock off! heheh.

I do notice that it ticks a lot louder than my sub!
