5712/1A clasp
Does anybody know whether following the introduction of the new clasp on the 5712/1R, the steel version will now be coming out the factory with the same new style?

I wonder if 5712/1A will be discontinued next year after 5712/1R has just released.

In 11 years' ownership, I've never noticed any issue with the 5712 clasp.

Making me think they might not discontinue it next year. They didn't updated 5726 clasp... Wish I could upgrade my 5712 with this clasp, not that it failed me, but it's just so rough... |

Fair comment, it's the kind of watch that demands bravery from its wearer. Rough, tough military types from the Marines or the SAS will feel totally at home with the 5712. Other people may require a period of training and acclimatisation before attempting to wear the Nautilus for more than a few hours.

According to service centre you can’t order the new clasp for a 5712/1a. They’re also not aware of any new 5712/1a pieces coming with the new clasp. Interesting to know where you obtained that info. or did you see a new piece with it on? |

Let's all speculate on whether it's going to get chopped or not.
Alternatively, we could do something useful instead. It's my favourite watch and I'll be sorry to see it go. |

45-50k watch. Also not having a micro-adjustment and having to reach finger under bracelet to “pop” it free to open is annoying as well (to me at least). I love the 5712 also and in my opinion those are the watches only flaws, with new clasp it would be very close to perfect for me. |

OP you can ask that question in Patek's website and someone from your regional Patek Service Centre will contact you hopefully with an answer. Hops this helps.

I bent the clasp on mine where it attaches to the bracelet, probably just my fat ogre fingers.

Am I right in saying that this upgrade has now happened?

Glad to see it upgraded. If the 5712 had a weak spot, it was the clasp; it simply lacks the engineering refinement of the rest of the watch.
By contrast, and as an example of more consistent design language, I point to the superb clasp on the DSSD. My personal fav. |

Does the new clasp (butterfly style) mean that the bracelet overall is less slim than the previous gen?

My 5726 has new clasp...
I saw a recent "exhibition" 5712 steel in AD case and it had previous clasp. Would love to see it get the new closure! As dumb as it sounds I would trade my old style clasp 5712 for a new style. |

European Watch Co. now has a new 5712 on their site and it’s about $30k more than one listed with the old clasp.

The old clasp is way more comfortable than the new one, same for the Aquanaut. They don't have the bump that leave marks on the back of your arm while wearing it..

I also prefer the classic clasp for the Nautilus.
