Stretch

How should this be interpreted?
“ Bracelet has stretch consistent with its age”

Subtext is 'it's stretched quite a bit' (and it's a mitigation comment really against any criticism of a sloppy bracelet- it's 'arguably' a fair comment, as old watches were worn not 'invested in'. Personally I'd prefer an honest slightly stretched eg 7836/9315/6215 (in keeping with wear of the rest of the watch-head) if it's robust/pins look safe, over a spanking service one.

In my buying experience that means the bracelet needs to be repaired to have the stretch taken out. (depending on the age of the bracelet)

That means it needs an overhaul sooner rather than later.

Depends on the age of the bracelet/watch. Can mean anything from OK to Unwearable.

I see this phrase with many a timepiece and at best it’s a subjective statement by the seller.

If it’s a timepiece you’re interested in purchasing, ask for a few pictures so you can see how much the bracelet sags. For me the main factor is whether or not the bracelet is usable for daily/occasional wear. Good luck with your quest!

Ask for a picture with dial placed vertically and bracelet hanging out in the back.

Also check for wear on links.

If it sags at a greater angle than in my picture (1989 GMT) be prepared to buy a new one someday.

It is really meaningless.

Your idea of how a 20 year old bracelet should be, and mine, could be quite different.

If I read it from a seller I would think that he is trying to justify a worn bracelet, but he also could simply be trying an honest evaluation in his mind.

Probably means it’s stretched to all hell (if it’s an old watch). Get seller to lay the bracelet flat on a surface and “bend” the bracelet ends to themselves to get an idea of how stretched it is. Also, someone else noted to look at the links themselves and see if there is significant notching around the center links.

That can be faked (laying the bracelet flat on a surface and “bend” the bracelet ends to themselves)

The gravity drop test is unbeatable.
