What was your first Rolex?

My first Rolex was a humble 34mm 6694 from 1964. I bought it from "The Little Yellow Shop" in Clerkenwell, London, I believe in 2009. At the time it was £850. There was a 5500 Air Kind also, for £1,050 if I remember correctly. Those were the days!

My 6694 has since been sold, to partly fund a 1974 Heuer Montreal chrono, which has since been sold to fund my 16570 in 2016.

What was your first Rolex?

Here is my first Rolex!
1992, a present from my wife.
Still in excellent shape, I use it regularly!

16710 Coke BNIB from AD. Long gone but I still remember that feeling walking out with it on my wrist.

Yes, it was a great present!
We were young, and we decided
that we deserved a "special present". Very special.
I chose a Rolex, she chose a pearl necklace.
I wanted the Sub, and when we exchanged our packets in mine there
was an explorer 2, my wife said "The salesman told me that Rolex
pushes a lot for this watch, and I though you'd like more".
But i preferred the Sub, so I changed the day after.
At those time (1992) you could enter the AD and choose expII, sub, GMT, whatever you want (but not a Daytona) and they
could give you even with a small discount!
I did not pay any difference, in passing from exp2 to Sub, I don't know which of the two costed more.

Anyway I just wanted to say that I am very very fond of that watch.
This is the special present that I received from my wife, once in a lifetime.
Since then... only scarfs and aftershaves!

My first Rolex was a Daytona Zenith 16520 which I sold to finance the purchase of two Patek (Aquanaut and Calatrava).

Early ‘80’s TT DJ 16013 with a black tapestry dial. Bought it off a friend in the late ‘80’s for £800 and absolutely loved it. Got married in it. Lost it in a carjacking in London mid ‘90’s.

TT Air King with a white dial & black romans in 1986. I had passed by the store in a mall several times & it was in the window. Finally went in, got a 20% discount & wore it home.

Thank you. It was supposed to be my last watch, one prestige model to crown my small collection. That plan didn't quite work out!

Mine was a 16800 Submariner. Bought it used from a medical student for $600 in the early 80's. Sold it about ten years ago for a little bit of a profit. :)

TT Daytona...

Too much bling for my tastes, traded it in for a WG Daytona, that one broke, repaired under warranty, traded it back for the same reference. (Which is unworn NIB in my safe).

1680 sub from the AD when I was 15. It was before anyone knew much about a submariner. I have her and she still works great. It is destined for my son.
