Quartz oyster perpetual

Hello,

I’m new to this forum but have been scouring online and a bit here popped up regarding “prototype” Rolex watches. I’m in possession of a woman’s Rolex watch, black face reading “Rolex Oyster Perpetual, Quartz, Japan Movt. It has diamonds at the 3,6,9, with a continuous gold strap. The movement reads that it is a 9GB00 made by Akita Ltd.
Is this perhaps a prototype during the “Quartz Crisis.” I’m aware that Seiko beat the luxury makers to the punch and they had at one point used their movements before manufacturing their own in 1972.
I can’t seem to find much on any prototypes from that era but this seems like a lot of work to be a fake and given that fakes weren’t even mainstream until the 80’s.
Any advice or opinions are well appreciated!

Your watch is fake. I can tell you that without seeing it. Sorry.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that fake watches weren't prevalent before the 80s, that's definitely not true. I personally recall people selling counterfeits on the street in the 70s, and I have seen tons of fakes of various brands that date to the 60s.

Upper Lascar Row, AKA 'Cat Street', is still a popular tourist street for antiques, junk and fake garbage (or was before Covid; it's pretty dead nowadays). High-end department store Lane Crawford became HK's first Rolex AD in the 1930s, and is still open for business in several locations, though longer as a Rolex AD.
