Any objections to this 1680?

https://timelessvintage.watch/watch/...80-black-1971-

Obviously many won’t like that it’s polished, but interested to hear if anything else stands out as off

The “I” in stainless on the etching between the lugs maybe off?

At first glance, the numbers between the lugs seem to be engraved with what looks like Typeface C. Problem is, in the 2.6 million range, Typeface C was not yet in use. In this range, it should either be Typeface A or B. My first thought was this could be some kind of service case. However, as you can see in the comparison below, the way the reference number is executed is not a perfect match with later cases engraved with Typeface C.

Maybe it's just the light but I don't like it. Those Rs in REGISTERED look super weird as well. The Mk 4 dial looks good though.

Cheers
Jose

Taken letter for letter there are a lot of anomalies in that engraving, and no wear between the lugs on a so obviously polished case. Fishy at best.

These lugs I dont consider polished. This is just a redone case with awful chamfering. Like the women you see at the hotelbar of the Beverly Hills Peninsula on a saturday.

I'd say that engraving is way off personally Jose, not just a wrong font for period. Rgds Paul

Thanks for the insights. So how would someone do something like this in theory? take a newer 1680 case, polish between the lugs, re-engrave it to match the mk4 dial period?

It was probably just an honest mistake by the dealer on a consignment piece. No worries!

But someone actually put it together that way and I was wondering how. Re-“stamped” a later service case?

Jose swoops in and...oh...he’s right again. I for one appreciate your (Jose) “trolling” and you (again-Jose) have saved me a couple of bucks over the years in our communications where I have sought your assistance...and you pointing out issues with watches I have asked you about, and you do it voluntarily and willingly and I cannot thank you enough.

Assuming that this has really been tampered with, I'm astounded at how frequently new members are posting problematic watches being sold by dealers. What are the odds?

As far as I can make out, the only full size watches (38mm and above) that the fakers have not turned upon yet - because prices/demand are not high enough yet - are the 38mm Tudor 'Jumbo' eg 90800, and the Tudor 38mm 'Integrales' eg 9121/0....and I suspect, sadly, that this will change soon as demand/prices increases over the next few years.

Most likely a new completely counterfeit case, like the 1665 thin case to me.

Someone in the Netherlands probably has access to a new generation of counterfeit cases and a pantograph...

Interesting ... two high-end vintage Rolexes with bad cases posted in the last week or so were both out of Amsterdam. I realize it's two different websites, but ....
